James Franco too old, miscast

I take it the real Michael was in his twenties. Watching James Franco in the trailer he is a little long in the tooth for the role, it is ridiculous to watch somebody with crows feet going through a crisis like this.

Also Michael sounds like a run of the mile ass hole not deserving of canonized on film.

It would be one thing if he was just a costarring character in a film, I'm sure it sounded like a cool/interesting story to make into a movie at the time but gay born again christian ass hole does not translate to a deep story.

Franco is in his thirties---definitely not anywhere near middle-aged by a longshot, and he still looks good, goofy grin and all, regardless. Plus the film more than likely needed a couple of big box office names to even get made in the first place, so he's probably part of the reason it's even seeing the light of day. Since he's flirted with sexually ambigious roles for the past decade, it will be interesting to see him play a flat-out gay character in what I'm assuming is a mainstream film for once.

I guess the Academy Award winning film "Milk" from almost 10 years ago hasn't made it on your Netflix queue yet?

With all due respect his journey is not a "deep story" in your very limited opinion.

It is apparent you have a deep seated irrational hatred of Mr. Franco. He is not 20 something....whine, whine. It is called acting moron.

Thank goodness you are not the judge and jury of every movie that gets made.

I wonder how "deep" your life story would read.....

The movie could have been worthwhile if Franco's character was costaring perhaps but While I can see why they got this cluncker into production it turns out to be a huge mistake, hey it happens.

The main character is a *beep* loser except the atmosphere the trailer wants to build around such a protagonist is very inconsistent with that. And yes, Franco is badly miscast, not every actor can play every role no matter how good they are. Meryl Streep should never be cast to play a twelve year old girl because chronological aging buddy, it's a thing and James Franco is clearly in his mid thirties. It makes him more pathetic and unlikable in this role.

It's too, not to. Franco would know that.
