I fail to see how the cloning machine is any different from a human womb nourishing an inseminated egg cell as it grows into a baby. In both cases it is an natural process following the laws of nature which may or may not have been instituted by any deity or deities which may or may not exist.
It both methods humans do all the creating that can be sensed or measured or detected and there is no evidence of any supernatural activity by any God or god.
I guess that it is a common theology to assume that beings that God gives souls to are people because of having souls, that being given a soul makes a being a person.
I would like to suggest that an equally valid theology would be to assume that some beings are people because they have the qualities which define people and that God gives souls to those beings who are people in order that those beings may live on after their bodies die, that the sole purpose and function of immortal souls is to enable people to live after the death of their bodies.
I suggest that if God is all knowing, all powerful, and all good He will give an immortal soul to any being which has the qualities of a person and thus is a person, regardless of how that person is created.
Furthermore there is no way to detect a soul. Therefore the only way to decide if a being has a soul is to decide whether that being has the qualities of a person. If that being has the qualities of a person, then it it is a person, and therefore if one assumes that there is an all knowing, all powerful, and all good god, one will assume that being has been given a soul.
Furthermore, think about a hypothetical situation were there are two beings who are exactly equal in their degree of personhood, and who equally need and deserve to have souls, but one of them has a soul and the other one doesn't.
In that case it would obviously be a far worse crime to kill the being who didn't have a soul than the being who did have a soul.
So stop assuming that you know who has a soul and who does not and respond to my question with the seriousness it deserves.
