What year did this take place?!

It seemed like they were deliberately all over the map. Clothing styles were all over the place, Bob was impressed the girl had a flat-screen TV, and was later watching Out of Sight on it, but Terry mentions ISIS at one point. The black dude and the disco henchmen were straight out of the 70's. It got pretty fun picking things out going along. I enjoyed this movie.

I felt it was set in current time with a blend of 70s mixed in i.e. some of the clothes, music and set pieces. It was a nice mix.

I also enjoyed the movie! Michael Pena was pretty fun especially when he was interacting with wife and kids.

I wondered the same thing, the filmography style, characters, some clothing and automobiles were 70s, yet there were elements of modern times, i.e. mention of ISIS. On top of that Micheal Pena calls the tv a flat screen, which people said in the early 2000s, when they were now hitting the market. Even his son had an old xbox which was out around that same time.

He says "widescreen" not flat screen. Then I think when you see him in his living room he has the widescreen TV above his own TV, which is smaller.

I got the feeling it was meant to be a 70's police story, french connection-style but for budget reasons they changed it to modern times and threw in a few modern jokes, like the one about ISIS, but kept the costumes, the cars, the music, characters etc.

Yes, there is an xbox and flat screen teve, but there seems to be no internet, cell phones or computers. Just old school police stuff.

Liked the move though. :)

To me it was an alternate reality made through the trope of American cop movies and TV from the 70's. Not the real 70's but the film fiction of the 1970's but with the movie actually set in modern times. I also noticed the viewer has to pay attention or you will miss the connection of each scene to the next. War On Everyone is a tightly woven film where a homage to 70's film/TV style might be too obscure for anyone under 50. I'm 54 I thought it was very funny.

They played Evolve on the XBOX, so it must be sometime after that game was released in 2015
