Why was their daughter African American?

She was obviously bi-racial, and her parents were obviously white. Who did the casting on this?

NOT that it matters what color the child is, nor is it pertinent to the story, but a Caucasian couple can have a biracial baby or an all black baby. In fact, even if the grandparents are white as well. Black couples have had white babies, a recent occurrence was in 2015 when baby Nmachi is a blond, blue-eyed white baby born to two black parents. In the movie, it's possible that one or both of the parents have a black or African parent.

For sure. I'm half Middle eastern half Irish, I look Irish so do my brothers but my sisters look Middle Eastern.

Interesting. You know the biggest WTF I saw was a couple in LA. He was a dark mexican and she was a very fair skinned blonde with blue eyes. They had two sons, one was blonde and looked white and the other was all latino. I thought it was funny that in a country where you're put into categories of race, one will grow up latino, and the other will grow up as a white guy.

Emilio Estevez and Charlie Sheen?

 a) No, they can't.

b) The answer is because Hollywood loves to insert black actors in white movies.

Why do you progressives always have to preface your replies like this? Your reply is what's impertinent! We're allowed to question the ethnicity of someone without your disgustingly grandiose, self righteousness. You SJWs are on your way OUT, thankfully.

I think you meant for this to be a helpful comment, but it does matter. Having a bi-racial child cast as white is whitewashing. Caucasians can adopt black kids, but the genes that make white skin and white features are recessive. So both parents would generally have to no be white to make a non-white baby, typically. Black couples don't have white babies either. It's just that one drop of black makes that persona socially all black. Mix-raced couples make all shades of kids. My father has red hair and green eyes and my sister, full sister, has grey eyes and white skin. They both can almost pass, but I can't nor could my mother. We're all black socially, but clearly not genetically.

Blond and blue eyed, like my sister, still doesn't make a person be classified as white. In fact, other blacks would be able to tell even that one drop, in general. I've found that white people are very bad at seeing other races. I don't mean this as an insult, so please don't take it that way.

Blacks in America are so mixed by our DNA that when we consider who's black or not we look at hair type, nose, lips and such while whites only see skin color. It's mostly do to socialization for how easier it is for blacks to spot black blood in a person whites tend to think are white.

Back to the original point, though. I don't think this child is black/white mixed, but she could play bi-racial. I do agree that the casting was way off, but the child is adorable, with her white self.

Here's her father-There's no picture but his name sounds Eastern European.

I think that she has some black blood going back a little bit, and when she is sun tanned, it highlights her african ancestry.

Her mother looks white but in that black and white picture, you can sort of see a glimpse of it.

In fact, she sort of reminds me of aboriginal children in Australia, who when mixed, are often quite blonde.
