Some considerations

Well I saw the movie and I enjoyed it.
A few considerations straight off the bat.

1) Emotional - Theaters should sell tissues (or if they already do they should make this known). It's quite an emotional film, and tears were rolling freely.

2) Dete - Now I haven't seen any of the older versions recently, but as soon as I saw Dete I thought "hmm... she looks a lot like Dete in another version". Or Dete looks exactly like one would want her to look.

3) Fräulein Rottenmeier - Somehow I remembered her as a slightly older woman in previous adaptions. This young (and good looking) version makes it harder to fully dislike her. Also here you get the vibe that she would really like to get romantically involved with Mr. Sesemann.

4) Jella Haase - I've only seen her in Fack ju Göhte (2013) and Fack ju Göhte 2 (2015) where she portrayed a ditzy teenager. I was pleasantly surprised by her talent in this one, where she portrays Tinette, a French maid in the Sesemann Household.

5) Swiss accent - it was nice to see Heidi using a Swiss sounding accent, as opposed to other versions where she would speak Standard German.

6) Scenery - Really awesome! Especially the Swiss Mountains. But, also historic Frankfurt is done very well.

7) Cheap CGI - And this is probably my main negative. There are a few scenes of an eagle in flight, and in some it's clearly CGI. Though considering that it's 2016, the CGI that's been used comes across as cheap and dated. Better CGI animals have existed in films.
