Found-footage type movies

Film makers - please stop making them. They are not a novelty any more. They are boring, tedious and pretentious.

reply

I agree. I'm getting really tired of found-footage movies. But I guess they are cheaper to produce, so I can understand why film makers with low budget tend to make those kind of movies.

I am the first person to rail against FF movies, I despise them.

But to be completely fair, there are a few really good ones out there. It really does depend on the ability of the actors and director to produce something worthwhile.

But lacking that, it usually ends up being nothing more than a bunch of shaky camera work.

To be fair, this one is quite the novelty - i cannot remember ever seeing a found footage flick that has oldschool library music to give the viewer a hint when something mysterious or scary is about to happen.
Sweetlord Jesusf-ingchrist this is next level low.

Most haunted special:Zombie hunt on the Somme.
Potential there for period zombie flick, contemporary it was just tired even wasting the tunnels which could have ratcheted up tension.

I enjoyed the below found footage films but that is about it.

Blair Witch Project
Cloverfield
Troll Hunter
[REC]
Chronicle

The Thing is, they have to be made by someone with some actual film making talent rather than just using a violently shaking camera and muffled sound to cover up for the complete lack of talent and budget.

I can understand why you think they are boring and tedious (the same thing, really), but why pretentious?

My personal view is that 'found footage' is a perfectly legitimate way of telling a story. Often, this more personal style of film-making can allow the viewer to know the characters more intimately than by a more straightforward approach.

I don't see why being low-budget should neccessairly mean bad (I know you haven't made this specific point - I'm just answering generally). A film-maker without access to multi-millions might have really good ideas but is unable to get mass-funding - also, low-budget films don't have to be compromised in a way that big-budget projects do. 'As Above, So Below' and 'Jeruzalem' are two mainstream films that were just expensive and utterly bland.

Just my opninon! :)
