'... he earns the right to be called a Jarhead.'
Give me a break. When I heard this in the trailer...
Complete bullcrap. Granted, I've been out of the Marine Corps for 14 years, but when I was in, Jarhead was a derogatory term. Navy guys called us Jarheads because of our stupid high-and-tight hair cuts. Yes, sometimes we called each other 'Jarhead', but it was in jest, like calling your buddy a douche-bag. It wasn't some coveted title or endearing nickname.
Even legitimate nicknames like "Devil Dog" and "Leatherneck" weren't titles that you wanted someone calling you. When you heard someone say "Hey, Devil Dog", it was usually a Staff NCO or an Officer trying to get your attention for a work detail but they couldn't recall your name. If you were walking across your motor pool or company grounds and you heard someone calling "Jarhead!" or "Devil Dog!", you learned really quick to stare straight ahead and keep on stepping.
