I loved The Man from Nowhere. I even checked out his first film Cruel Winter Blues. It was also very good. I didn't even know he had a new film coming out until I saw the trailer. I can't wait to see it!

I'm more excited that is has Jang Dong Gun in it myself. He's one of my all time favorite actors

Saw this today. I've been a fan of Jang Dong-gun a while (though he's saddled with a very unfortunate haircut here.) :D The story was very cliche, but I liked it for his performance, as well as Kim Min-Hee's. Some of the supporting cast were a little too over the top.

Uber violent and not as good as "The Man from Nowhere", but certainly worth seeing.

Good to hear. Here's a review http://filmschoolrejects.com/reviews/tears-dead-review.php

Looks like great performance and action but the story was a bit convoluted. I'll definitely be checking it out when I can. Eplayer do you mind sharing how/where you saw it? I'm hoping maybe it will play TIFF film festival this year - they always have a few korean films playing.

reply

I saw it at Pearlridge theater in Hawaii. Korean TV and films are very popular here and we are lucky enough to get some newer films here. They usually will play a week or two at that theater. (For some reason, the Korean and Filipino films always go to that theater; a little out of my way, but worth the trek.) The Hawaii International Film Festival leans heavily toward Asian films, too.

Nice that's awesome. I'm a big fan of Korean films. I usually have to torrent them over here or get import but I do see some at the Toronto Film Festival.

reply

It's playing at the Cineplex Odeon Yonge & Dundas Cinemas now.

reply

Omg yeah I just saw that! Today is the last day for it and I can't get to Toronto until Monday. Such a bummer ;(

reply

Hopefully it will leak online soon enough. Since I dont feel like waiting 9 months to see this on DVD.

reply

It's been leaked for a while now... Anyways I was pretty disappointed. It's definitely nowhere near as good as The Man From Nowhere. That being said it did have some good action in it. I'd rate it maybe a 6.5 out of 10. Still worth seeing once imo.

What site is it leaked on? Where?

reply

I can't post that here but its on pretty much every site with movie releases.

The film is style over substance. The story is clearly secondary to the action, but I don't mind that. The action sequences are some of the best I've seen all year. Hyper stylized and gory as hell. The reviews don't represent how awesome the action is. The first scene essentially represents how brutal and over the top they can be (80s style). Example, a guy is shot point blank in the mouth, and the bullet travels through the back of his head and shoots off the fingers of the guy behind him.

I think this director is the only one who has the balls to blend action & "feeling" together. U feel sorry for Gon after we see his past. We feel sorry for Cha Tae-Sik in 'The Man From Nowhere'. His movies aren't JUST mindless action, although I don't mind that at all. Jeong-beom Lee & Gareth Evans are on top as far as action goes. I really liked this movie!. Only $7 million to make too!

This comment makes absolutely no sense. For one thing, there is far more drama scenes here then action.

You just mindlessly repeated the cliche "style over substance" without having any clue if it even fits here.

Roger that. My most hated cliche @IMDB is:"wasted two hours of my life I'll never get back". Who wasted what? Let's admit that YOU waste more time on bad cliches than watching bad movies.

Spoiler ahead...
The fact that an army of cops and swat could not hear, or in any way observe the fact that a gun battle was taking place a dozen stories above their heads kinda left a sucking chest wound in Mr. Plot. Oh yeah, and there was no one else in the building concerned or smart enough to pick up a land line and ask for help? And the thug that did NOT take the bag of cash after whining about getting paid and, ahem, dispatching his former employer with aplomb? Golly Mr. Plot...that chest wound is getting rapidly worse.😁 Minus four. Mindless action, weeeeeee! Lovin' it! Six generous stars for the action mixed with a dash of bitter-sweet, shaken, not stirred. Chick's gonna need serious counseling.

It's on Netflix. Watched it last night and thought it was pretty darn good. a little long maybe, story gets a bit convoluted, but it had enough emotional resonance and well-shot action to keep me interested.

Saw this and thought it was a pretty good action-packed thriller with more than enough violence and action sequences to go around. It definitely has some emotional resonance, especially when dealing with the hitman's main victim to be in one heartbreaking scene (when she gets drunk and cries over the loss of her daughter.) Plus, it was cool to see Korean movie star Dong-gun Jang in a new film (already seen him in NOWHERE TO HIDE,FRIEND,BROTHERHOOD,2009:LOST MEMORIES, and THE WARRIOR'S WAY. And it was even cooler to see him speaking English in some parts again (not only is he still smoking hot, but he has a nice deep voice.) It's a shame that good Korean films like this one rarely seem to get a U.S. release anymore, though. Love the title----it sounds like it would have been perfect for a spaghetti western!
