What a stupid, STUPID show

I'm already convinced that Americans, in general, are woefully under-educated, and somewhat stupid (my definition of stupid is when information is there to be had, but a person blithely chooses to ignore it). But, with this television series there are SO.MANY.THINGS.WRONG.WITH.THIS.SHOW. that is has officially set a new low bar for stupidity.

I don't even know where to begin but, since I've read some of threads on this board (thus, confirming my first assertion), let me go with this thought:

Some on here are arguing that you have to suspend belief in order to enjoy science fiction. To some small degree, that's often true. But good science fiction is the kind where the universe, and what happens in it, seem entirely plausible. Could we be flying spaceships around shooting at one another at some time in the future? Could dinosaurs be reanimated to roam the earth, terrorizing humans? Is time travel possible? These are typically the kinds of questions that make scifi so much fun and, since we believe that the answers are at least somewhat plausible...we can enjoy the ride.

Unfortunately, while I appreciate some of the effort in "Ascension", it is so ridiculously implausible that I could find NO WAY to suspend belief for this mini-series. Every scene seemed filled with silliness, from the idea of carrying 100 years worth of lipstick on a mission-to-save-mankind, to the gravity issue, the logistics of doing most of what these people did on this spaceship, no one ever detecting the big secret, the advanced technology they used (some of which STILL doesn't exist)...and on, and on, and on.

Here's the sad part: There are people here trying to defend the "science" behind this show. Look, if you enjoyed it for the copious drama and sex scenes, good for you. If you thought it was great SCIENCE fiction, then you are a stupid person.
