I found the farting giant immature and distasteful

Unfortunately my three pre teen grandchildren didn't and demanded that I take them to see the movie again.

And buy the DVD.

As I said in another post, I normally find farting to be one of the lowest forms of comedy, and hate how writers of some children's movies seem to be "compelled" to include farting. However, as I also said in another post, I was okay with it in The BFG, because it is in the book - it's part of the story, and both versions I grew up with (the animated movie and the cartoon in that order) have used it. It was less subtle in the recent movie, I guess, but it didn't seem as lowbrow to me, as farting usually does, because it was part of it anyway, back before almost every kid's movie included fart jokes, so it didn't seem like they were just including it, because it was a cheep attempt at comedy.

Though, as I also said in the same other post, I didn't realize they were farting when I first saw the animated movie.

Farting is a normal part of being. Even animals do it. The reason they include farts and burps in a child's movie is because it is aimed to entertain children. I don't know about you, but I've got three kids. And each of them finds farts and burps hilarious. The older a person gets, the more frowned upon it becomes. So it becomes more of an embarrassment than a reason for a good ole laugh. Yeah, maybe not totally appropriate to just do it anywhere, but holy moley... Its just a fart. Get over it. And yes, since I work in the medical field, I am aware of what a fart does. This reminds me of the stupid "girls don't poop" quote. Let kids be kids. Teach them it's okay to fart. Teach them when and where. And teach them that an excuse me is a must, even when laughter is involved.

^Why did you even breed? It's immature, period.

I fart a lot and hate having to do it. I intense dislike farts in films. This was Spielberg's new low.

This is a part of the book, and is meant to be light-hearted and show the different mentality the giant had vs what humans think. Also, IT'S FOR CHILDREN. Try reading the book.
