Was everyone able to see her?

I'm talking about Stella (Zooey) ? I mean Pierre's friend Carrie comes to the old man's house and talks to Stella about not hurting Pierre or breaking his heart or some such..I thought only the old man and Pierre could see her but then how to explain this scene ?
Btw, I have not read the book
