Why show us a great pilot and then pull it?

Amazon has been making some great (and not so great) pilots that it then asks viewers of Prime to vote on. This one plus another "The After" had me and many others anxiously waiting for more. Every couple of days I'd check for more episodes and after about a year I finally see there aren't going to be any more.
This show had the makings of a surprise hit ala "Modern Family" over time but not even given a real chance. Amazon you are making me reconsider my Prime membership renewal this year.
