Translation please?

at 1:16:20 the scene where Frederick Pryor's girlfriend is showing his picture to an East German officer, followed is a scene of Pryor in his prison cell.

The entire time she is speaking in German , and there are NO subtitles.
This is quite frustrating with some movies. They omit the translation, and the audience has to figure out what the heck is being said.

Can anyone please TRANSLATE ?

Thanks so much !

reply

They omit the translation ...
Because it's deemed there that the dialogue is not important enough to warrant sub-titles. Pryor ends up in prison. Simple as that.

Other than that, the languages accessory on the menu may be able to assist you.🐭

"Language accessory" ??
Am I missing something?
There are NO subtitles that's why I was asking in the first place.

Please let me know if I missed something from the menu.

No kidding.

Well I happen to be curious about languages , and what is being said.

My German is not very good but from memory it was something like, "Have you seen him?" When no answer was forthcoming, she said something like, "Please tell me; have you seen him?" There was obviously more than that but I would have to go over the film again and my German being what it is, I probably couldn't shed much more light on it anyway.

reply

Being from Europe my German's okay, but I just dont remember the conversation itself. Anyways, it was indeed along the lines of "have you seen him" and "where is he?"

reply

At first I was thinking that, but then I became glad they didn't bother to break up the image with text.

And if you think about it, even with no subtitle, the scenes with foreign language are all fully obvious simply from the acting, gestures, body language and context. These could have been played with music over them and still delivered the same message.

Wow. How did you guess ? I am RETATDED.

Girl: Frederick Pryor.

Guard: I'm sorry, I can't help you. I can't speak to this matter. (Tut mir leid, ich kann Ihnen nicht weiterhelfen. Ich kann dazu nichts sagen)

Girl: He's not here? Or you can't tell me where he is? Where is he? (Er ist nicht hier? Oder Sie können mir nicht sagen wo er ist? Wo ist er?)

Guard: I can't tell you anything about this matter. (Ich kann Ihnen dazu nichts sagen.)

Girl: Please. Please tell me. Please, I have to know. Is there someone I can talk to? Or you sepak to me, where is he? (Bitte. Bitte sagen Sie es mir. Bitte, ich muss es wissen. Gibt es jemanden mit dem ich sonst reden kann? Oder sagen Sie es mir, wo ist er?)

Thanks - I appreciate your time.

all these other posters criticizing .... why do you guys even bother saying anything if you aren't going to be useful/helpful. I guess just for the sake of criticizing.

All I asked for was some translation.

If you can't do it - no need to be a jack ass about it.

reply

My mind is blown. That whole scene I thought the girl was just applying for a job as a guard. They really should have provided subtitles.
