Jay's ability to 'perform'

(sorry if this has been addressed before) Excuse my ignorance/naivete, but how does someone -Jay- perform as an athlete when he abuses his body so heavily and regularly with booze and drugs? surely it affects him mentally as well as physically?? I thought athletes 'treated their bodies like temples" ie: with respect.

I've met many Pro Fighters. You'd be surprised how accurate that lifestyle is in that world, at least for the old school fighters. With that said, I am sure lots of other sports are the same way. I just haven't that many pro athletes outside of the MMA world, but when it comes down to it, in my opinion Talent is talent

To the OP

That is a VERY good question man. I used to do amateur MMA in my younger days (Im 25 now). I had to stop due to a severe mental condition. I am a smoker and smoked while i trained and fought but never did any drugs other than the occasional hit of herb. I distanced myself from other fighters outside of my gym as they were kinda dicks lol. I have never seen any do the amount of drugs or self destructive things Jay does but believe me. It goes on.

He's a young guy, still in his twenties. You can get away with a lot of abuse and still perform at the top level when you're that young.
