I need more movies like this and Kung Fury!

This was easily my favorite movie of last year and it gave me the nostalgia feels. I'm loving the retro vibe TK and KF gave us last year and I'm really hoping for more like it this year.

Honestly think this one can stand on its own as a goofy fun movie with a sweet story underneath because I felt the movie had character. Kung Fury definitely doesn't tho.

If this movie gave you nostalgia feelings I actually doubt you get what the old low budget movies were about or what made them appealing. Like I wrote in some other threads this and Kung Fury mock and make fun of the 70s, 80s, and early 90s movies. They do not pay any kind of respectful homage to them. Their makers simply do not get it.
Many of the old films and cartoons referenced in Turbo Kid are actually not good movies at all. They are pretty bad and corny. They do deserve cult following but they're like Troll 2. You cannot pay any kind of homage to cheesy b-movies by imitating all that made those films bad. It's not nostalgia which makes it fun to watch old 80s movies, but rather seeing what visions of dystopia or pop culture the makers of the films had.

Yeah because that's why nearly a million people never bought Blood Dragon... oh wait!

Dude, you're such a forum aristocrat. Get off your message board high horse. There's no reason to be a topic-Trotsky.

I love these retro flicks, they're awesome. And I had a blast watching Turbo Kid. The retrowave music was enough to make me geek out. This movie and Hobo with a Shotgun were awesome. And while Kung Fury was definitely over the top, I still loved it.

You 2000s-forum goers spend all your time being retro-downers, thinking you're better than all of us lower-budget film fanatics. Well let me tell you something buddy, us low-budgeters will always prefer squibs over CG gibs... always and forever.

DBM3 looks insane! Teshburger and Vortex need to lighten up and learn to enjoy things. Have some fun people.

true, hope u enjoy it.

This really shouldn't be compared with Kung Fury. This movie is crap. It makes Kung Fury look like The Godfather.

Sucks to be you hombre. I really wish you could appreciate these movies like I did but, we cant all have the same sense of humor. I felt both accomplished their individual goals in their own right. And with zero condescension, I'm truly sorry you couldn't enjoy both films for the light hearted 80's homage fun that they were.

I doubt you were alive anywhere near the 80s or have seen enough 80s movies. If you were you'd realize that this movie, as well as Kung Fury, are not homages to the 80s films. They are mockeries. They both mock the stylistic and narrative elements of the movies that weren't reviewed well even back then.

By imitating the visual style the directors are entirely missing what makes the old movies different. It is not about the electronic synth sound effects and it is not about sticking artifacts from the 80s like the Walkman or the hi fi audio tapes. It was never about the setting but rather the approach to plot and character development in which good and evil was always clearly defined and not relativistic. It was the tendency to embrace whatever is contemporary at that given time period and not some sentimental nostalgia focus. So the whole premise of these 80s "homage" movies goes against what the 80s movies about.

I also want to add something I've mentioned previously either in this thread or in another. In case of Turbo Kid you can actually notice that the director was all over the place and didn't even stay focused on the time period of the 80s but that he threw in everything in. Stuff associated with 70s, the 80s pop culture stuff, as well as the things that only become pop culture in the 90s. You cannot threw everything in one pot and expect to get a consistent movie.

A good example of what I'd call a true homage to the 80s films is Mad Max Fury Road. There was another movie also but I forgot which one.

Like what?

Thought it's the other way around. Loved this one and didn't think much of Kung Fury. This one actually had a sweet story under those references and I kinda cared for the 2 leads. Kung Fury was just references, references, and more references. It had no character.
