Looks like a pretty good site, I plan on signing up there as well.

If I can't get the same username as I have here, I'll put my current IMDB username in the signature area over there, if the options permit.

reply

I just registered over there under the same username.

This one looks promising too:

Looks very close to IMDB's board formatting before the last big upgrade.

I saw that site the other day Cobram, when someone posted it at the Little House boards, but for some reason was under the impression that it was exclusive to game of thrones. I just checked it out again though, and it looks like it might be a pretty good site, and you can request a board for a specific show if it doesn't already exist. I think I'll sign up at this one as well.

One thing that does concern me about the IMDB 2.0 board, is that it is on Proboards, and I've been a member of Proboards forums before, and have seen them get shut down without notice, because someone posted something inappropriate.

reply

The "GotBoard" is almost a carbon copy of "IMDB v2.0" forum. Besides the different appearance, it has nearly the exact same sub-forums in the same order.

reply

I am now registered on both sites under the same name. Turns out that they're both hosted by Proboards, which is a freeware site, which of course is understandable. My only concern is that Proboards is prone to censorship, and it's fairly easy to get shutdown without notice.

Looks like a much better option. Formatting and design are very close to this board. Much less of a general board than the other options.

Looks like the movies and shows are there, already sorted and all. I'm going to give this a try, I'm passing on the others unless they get more organized and figure out exactly what they are.

Haven't actually used it yet. Just perused some of the boards on it. Didn't really notice anything. But if you're right, that's not good.

That was the impression I had from some of the regulars. One goes so far as to say: 1. A whole new set of mods. We already have more than enough on our plate.

2. Super strict rules and moderation. Basically, we only allow instructive
and constructive discussions. No gossips, no games, no commenting on
people's physical appearance/relationships/sexual orientation/acting
ability and no personal opinions (that's what reviews are for). Plus,
things like a minimum & maximum characters limit and a well-thought
spoiler policy. That doesn't sound like that person would be too thrilled with some of the discussions we've had in here about this show. Here's the thread:

Grant it, I haven't read the entire thread, so maybe that opinion is not shared by the site owner and/or the majority of users.

That doesn't sound too good does it? One member over at the little house forums had the below to say with regards to the Got Board, so I think that place, or Railing Kill's site are good places to start.

http://thegotboard.com/

It's not getting alot of traffic yet as people are still using IMDb, but it has no censorship and you can embed vids and pics. It's either that or let your board die.

Maybe give it a try. Worse case scenario, if it is not a comfortable place to share ideas, it can serve as a place to muster, so we don't lose any straglers.

The way the board is setup, people from this board, no matter which films or TV shows they discuss, will be able to find that area very easily.

These other boards are much harder to navigate, and most people won't even bother IMHO.

I'll check it out Cobram, and have already book marked it, but from the way that it sounds, I probably won't be posting there very often. But I agree, it sounds like a good possibility as a place to at least meet up initially. The two above mentioned Proboards sites look good, but from past experience, I know that it's possible to get shut down by the hosting service for saying the wrong things.

Also, for those interested in the television survival shows such as Survivorman, Dual Survival, etc, and don't mind Facebook, member rickathedj set up a facebook page for these shows.

I tried navigating the proboards, they're a cluster fudge compared to https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/61789-alaskan-bush-people/discuss/589b5962c3a3680c63000431

Facebook is an option, but many people don't like it, or won't use it. It doesn't really lend itself to this type of back and forth, IMHO anyway. It is a good option for people to find the topic, no doubt there. themoviedb is the same, people will find it.

Whatever way it goes, the only thing I don't want to miss is realityobserver's commentary on the episodes, it's the main reason I even bother to scan the show and follow this board.

Give it a little time Cobram, they're still in their infancy. I know that the Got Forum has a section in which you can request a subforum for a show if there isn't one already present.

Yeah, I totally agree. Social media just can't provide the same experience as what we're used to here. I knew that once IMDB decided to shut down its forums, it was just going to result in a big mess, sending everyone scattering to various sites, most of which will not provide the same experience.

I just checked out that thread that you were referring to Purk, and I get the same general impression. Turns out that the entire site is mostly ran by one dude, with a few assistants. It looks like a great place to go for general movie/tv information, but not for the message boards. I'd stick to the previously tv forums for that.

I signed up for Previously.tv and reddit. The reason I didn't go with IMDB2 or Got is because there are hardly any posts over there. I know they're new supposedly, but still, I want some traffic.

I heard that Amazon is making IMDB take down their boards. If that is true, it's a big disappointment to me, since I am a long time customer and supporter of Amazon.

I think that's mostly because everyone is still using IMDB rmontro. I anticipate that those sites will pick up following the close of these boards.

But we could probably count on some activity, at least for this particular show, over at Railing Kill's website or facebook page.
