I don't get Cassandra's powers

it's not magic based, but she can control people's minds now?

I used to be indecisive. Now, I'm not so sure.

They haven't really said she can control someone's mind , yet.
I imagine a future season may expose how powerful this gift can be and how it can be abused.

I guess it is a form of telepathy -- while she is not having a conversation with the person, she can send thoughts to them. Like in the last ep where she sent Jones the code he needed to open the door. It's not like she told the guard "You are sleepy , go lay down."

More than that, she hasn't sent any words that I recall, only numbers. She gave the sudoku solution to the nurse and the numerical code to Jones.

I think Jones got a bit more than just numbers. He sort of quotes Cass when he gets the code.
I can't recall but it was like she thought (totally random example) "It's the atomic weight of cobalt! 313" and he said the same thing .

I swear, I almost used "These are not the droids..." quote for an example 

That occurred to me shortly after she put the Sudoku answer into the nurse's head, and I hoped they wouldn't use it as an easy solution to everything. That would reduce the value of Flynn being granted entrance everywhere by simply saying: "I'm the Librarian." LOL

Yeah. I really don't want to see anything resembling: "These are not the droids you're looking for." LOL

i still don't get what she's doing though if it's not magic-based. how does she compel people to think of certain things or whatnot.

It would fall under the 6th sense, Extrasensory perception (ESP)
"reception of information not gained through the recognized physical senses but sensed with the mind."

It's a common theme among many Sci-Fi stories :)
The power of the human mind.
