Why do I keep watching it?

Especially this season, this show continues to get lamer and lamer. The writing has become dumber and dumber. The plots get stupider and stupider. Yet I keep watching it. What is it about this show that I keep watching it (while my wife gives me the wondering eye) despite it devolving over the years?

This really is one of the greatest shows ever.

You see the destruction that she-beast laid? I'm being risk-averse, considering.

reply

Because it's fun?

You say lamer and lamer. I prefer to call it "campy." It sounds nicer. Like the difference between being frugal and being cheap. LOL This show has always been campy, and even silly in a fun sort of way.

Why you are still watching? One of two reasons. Either there is still SOMETHING you like, or you just can't break yourself of the habit of watching. You might try just not watching, and see if you miss it.

Well, yeah, the show has always been campy. But my wife and I have been watching it since the beginning because we enjoy the theme, and the characters are OK. But this season, we've been finding ourselves looking at each other, commenting on just how bad the plots and writing have been this year... probably it's the plots that are breeding our reaction more than anything else.

The low points I think, were 'The Tears of a Clown', and "The Curse of Cindy". It was during the latter when my wife (who was the one who got me hooked on this show), actually stopped watching and commented that she wasn't interested in the show anymore (for all the reasons I listed in my OP). It's become "cringeworthy" campy!

And I totally agreed with her, yet I kept watching. And I still am.

I'd say the best episode this season was 'The Reunion of Evil'. So to make my point, as the best episode of season 3, it's only par when compared to the previous two seasons. That's my point.

There must be some reason deeply hidden in your psyche that forces you to keep tuning in. You may be the ultimate example the Freudian Theory that the unconscious mind governs behavior to a greater degree than people suspect. It may take years of psychoanalysis and treatment before you are cured.

That.... or you will stop after the season finale. ;o)

That's what we need - ridiculous odds, and just a speck of hope that someday, we'll beat it

If the psychoanalytical answer nannyjo suggested isn't satisfactory to you, there are a few others...

Recent head trauma? This one has come in handy for my teenage son's recent fascination with K-pop girl groups. Why else would he be interested in gorgeous, minimally dressed girls?

Insidious Alien Mind Control? This one would particularly apply if you live near Roswell or Area 51. If not, replace "Alien" with "Government" and you have yourself a plot, I tell you.

Evil spouse? She got you hooked so she can use it against you in the Family Court proceedings she isn't telling you are coming. She's also putting something in your Cheerios.

Habit and hope? You're used to watching and you hope it will get better?

Or maybe the poster just likes to complain and watches in order to get complaint material.

Most probably this!

As I was merely wanting to see the reactions to help me determine if I'm off base or not, it's definitely not this:

Well. I had to take my tongue out of my cheek at some point.  That's why I have stuck with some shows past my personal enjoyment point.

To be fair, I apparently find odd things interesting. When people on this board were blowing up at John Kim's stilted acting, I was watching his learning curve.

For the record, your second post was witty enough to make it clear that your original post wasn't a "Goodbye cruel show[multiple exclamation points]" type of post.

Edited to add: I also don't really think your wife is doing ungodly things to your breakfast.

And isn't it a rewarding learning curve to watch!

Though I wouldn't blame her if she was!

Perhaps we could prescibe an aluminum foil hat? I heard Reynolds is the brand to use. That might block those wicked aliens/governments from thought / action control. Pull the shades, lock the doors and don the tin foil outfit on Sunday nights, and all will be fine.

(I love the others, too. Cat ;o) )

Of course you can't use Reynolds to keep away the electric nightmare monsters. Reynolds is a major conglomerate and has the same name as a cigarette manufacturer.

Because most other shows are SOOO bad. Also, it's nice to have a show which doesn't take itself seriously, and tries to entertain us.
Ask yourself----is Sherlock or The Librarians a better show?
Doesn't Sherlock just make you want to cringe or even vomit?
Sherlock is so much campier and stupider than The Librarians, but takes itself utterly seriously. This is just one example, but you get the point.

Is this show actually very good? I watch a lot of shows similar to this (Leverage, Grimm, Charmed, The Magicians, Incorporated, ect) Should I start watching? From the clips and trailers I have seen it seems kind of Silly and cheesy (the pilot)

How many of the "Libarian Movies" do I need to watch? I have one of them on my DVR.

reply

I think I've reached my tipping point on this show. I got past the EXTREMELY cheesy humor and the bad fight choreography but I just watched the Vampire episode.

My God was it bad, there were 10 vampires surrounding 2 Librarians and they just stand in front of them snarling. And when they were caught they had a long convoy about a plan including punching and kicking while the 3 vampires holding them just stood there.

But isn't that like practically every martial arts movie ever made? LOL The bad guys always line up one by one to get their butts kicked by the hero. They don't fathom the idea that its going to take more than one of them at once.
