Ending ?

I never understood the ending part. When Edith mentioned that she is going to give the ship to the British museum as a gift and also would request that Brown's work gets properly acknowledged, yet Brown is shown throwing dirt/soil back on the ship.

What i thought that something happened and they thought to close it back or perhaps i am missing something. Can someone explain?
