I really don't get all the love for this

I am usually a fan of Sci fi movies. Or as the academy awards claimed comedies which this is clearly not. Anyway I found this to be one of the most boring movies I've ever seen. Not exaggerating. And it's not cause its just one guy most of the movie because I loved Cast Away. I Am legend is another although not nearly as good as Castaway.Anyway I'm just curious how this movie is 8.1 and recieved all these awards. For those of you who like or even love this boring boring movie please enlighten me on just a few things that entertained you. The weirdest thing is I love anything to do with outer space. I love seeing scenes of stars and planets and so forth. But this wqs just plain boring as hell from start to finish. Again anyone who feels differently whi ch apparently there's many of you feel free to enlighten me. .

This is the second most useless type of comment. (The most useless is along the lines of "this movie sucks".)

The post makes no attempt to discuss the movie "The Martian" or any of its themes. Its only purpose is to denigrate the fans of this movie and question its rating.

Yeah, well it is sort of like any movie isn't it? For every movie some think it is one of the best while others think it is trite and stupid.

I guess that means not everyone likes the same things. That is the only answer to the OP. It is so obvious I find myself wondering why he didn't figure it out for himself.

Wow you're either psychic or a creepy person who looks and sees what people previously posted. Assuming your the later. Glad you enjoyed the martian and thought babadook was trite and stupid.

Yes but that doesn't change the fact you took the time to look up my past posts and see my comments on movies. Who does that? People with alot of time on they're hands maybe. I couldn't care less if you've seen it or not. I care you took the time to know I liked it. Which is just odd.

All I can say is wow. You're the one missing the point. You won't even acknowledge the fact that you basically stalked my old posts just to come up with what you thought was a clever little line about the babadook. I'm done with you. Glad you liked the martian. Nuff said.

It's creepy when someone looks up another's post history? Hmmm I wonder...why is everyone's post history accessible to the entire forum if we aren't meant to look? That's simply a silly comment on your part, joel. Lol

Um..."TxMike"?

You ARE aware that your comment is actually Tied for "the second most useless type of comment", are you not, child?

Yeah, yeah - so is this one; point is that you seem more intent on trying to sound intelligent enough to claim "I, TxMike, am Superior to You! Just see my oh-so-smart comments!"

Never mind that such comments are themselves pretty unoriginal and seem intended to really impress most IMDB FANBOY types, as they are mostly children themselves, 'trained' (indoctrinated) by Hollywood regarding good filmmaking; and whose most common Comment is "Oh, this movie is so Boring! And the Violence is X, Y and Z - there is no way he would kill that guy like that, blah blah blah [as if such boys know a thing about actual violence - or much else, really].

HINT: IF you find it necessary to insult, denigrate, belittle or even poke fun in that pompous tone - then all such comments (yes, child, like this one) are utterly worthless and meaningless. No one here cares a whit about how smart you think you are or whether you are convinced of your own vast Superiority...

BTW - where, exactly, is your comment containing your brilliant review? All we can see is that smarmy, self-righteous immaturity [some call it 'Obvious Insecurity']

OP, sometimes you just don't like a movie, it happens. I for one love sci fi/space movies and loved the Martian. I thought it was an excellent film from top to bottom. Not perfect, but damn well close. Great visuals, great soundtrack, all around very solid movie. If you didn't like it, I'm sorry. There are movies/shows I don't like that everyone else does. That is just life.

Well said, sedativ.

This is the second most useless type of comment.
Hey, some just like to give others the opportunity to change their opinion for them, knowing they will never change their opinion...

I'm sure there are many posts with "I really don't get the love/ambivalence/hate for this...(insert movie title here)"

Castaway was undermined by hortific product placement.

You and the original poster can't seem to get "Cast Away" and "Castaway" sorted out. I suspect both of you mean the 2000 movie "Cast Away" with Hanks and not the 1986 movie "Castaway." Or do you???

Matt

reply

Ofcourse I mean the tom hanks movie. Never heard of castaway in 1986 but I'll assume it's not a one man show. So here's to you trying to be a smart ass again.

reply

You seem to be a sloppy thinker and/or a sloppy writer. In the same post you referred to 'Cast Away' and 'Castaway'. Two quite different things with different meanings. Maybe all this is tied in with why you can't appreciate a good movie like 'The Martian', it has depth and requires a viewing with empathy.

The Martian had absolutely ZERO depth, and even the science was dumbed-down.

A viewer had to turn their brain off just to make it to the end.

reply

I avoided the movie on its first run because the story was too heavily copied from the 2000 Mission to Mars. Check it out; only the ending was really different. And the ending was highly farfetched.
Still, when I did see it (PPV), I would say the production of the movie and the acting were quite well done. Viewing it, one does feel empathy and respect for the difficult situations the fictional story creates. I can't blame the Director and cast for the fact the 2011 book took many ideas from the 2000 movie. I'll give it a 7.

It isn't the most "edge of the seat" movie, but it is visually nice. My main problem with it is that it's too long.

reply

I'm with you on this one...just watched it with my husband...and we were both like "how many awards did they win? and "WHY"????!...it was sooo cheesy and boring and just awful.

reply

I'd like to point out the comment from omarpowermotivation two entries and 5 days ago. No one seems to notice this type comment, because they're hell bent on denigrating a movie/TV Show that others like.

reply

If you don't 'get' why this movie is excellent, that's fine. All you need to do now is understand that there are plenty of people who do 'get' this movie and absolutely love it regardless of your personal opinion. 😃
