TRIVA: (where the CLOTHING is made for both JUDE and the REAL POPE) etc.

While searching for a LIST of the PAINTINGS we see in the OPENING CREDITS of the show found this:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3655448/trivia?ref_=tt_trv_trv

The papal clothes worn by Jude Law in his role as Pope Pius XIII were created by a store which also makes clothing for the real Vatican.

This is Diane Keaton's second role as "Sister Mary". In 2001, she starred in the black comedy "Sister Mary Explains it All".

Still can't find a LISTING of the PAINTINGS in the OPENING CREDITS for the SHOW though ...

Good for them, I mean if Francis (and some of the cardinals) now want to buy cheaper clothes they are probably happy to make Lenny's extravagant ones 😀

At least now we know where the CLOTHES come from and who makes them.

Here's a site that explains THE DELIVERY of the KEYS to the KINGDOM:

https://buckleytgv.wordpress.com/2013/02/08/the-delivery-of-the-keys-to-saint-peter/

Interpretation of “The Delivery of the Keys”

“The Delivery of the Keys” was based on a story suggested from Matthew 16:19 where Jesus hands the keys to the kingdom of heaven to Saint Peter saying, “You are Peter, the Rock; and on this rock I will build my church… I will give you the keys of the kingdom of Heaven.”

Saint Peter was made the first pope, which justified the supremacy of the pope being the spiritual power of the Catholic Church. This makes sense why Pope Sixtus IV would want such a painting in the chapel.

The artistic techniques used in this painting were very famous during the time of the Renaissance. The “vanishing point” technique is used to get scaling and depth in this fresco. A fresco is a mural painting created with water-based pigments applied to wet plaster placed directly on a wall.

The painting is symmetric, with the keys in the center, and that is said to symbolize the importance of the subject. One may like this fresco because of the religious importance, beauty, and details that were carefully painted to make the scene realistic.

But in the OPENING CREDITS the KEYS are also DROPPED when they see THE COMET.

Guess with the COMET coming there's also no reason to HAND them over???

I don't see the keys being dropped. The painting is just as the original, the golden key being handed over, the over key on a chain, dangling.
As for the paintings:

Apparently one needs to watch the HBO version of it to see the KEYS DROPPED because they're also using some kind of SPECIAL EFFECTS that don't work on the YOU TUBE video version.

So if you have ON DEMAND check it out.

The characters in the other PAINTINGS also MOVE around as well.

And thanks for this link.

One found it and tried to go to it, but then got some kind of WARNING POP UP saying one needed to call them to get rid of a VIRUS.

So one also SHUT it DOWN with the TASK MANAGER, and then couldn't find it listed again anymore in the SEARCH OPTION after that.

Did you also have the same thing happen to you???

These people are such PESTS!!!

As if one is going to be DUMB ENOUGH to CALL THEM and hand them one's personal info!!!

Anyhow, if anyone else gets this WARNING saying to CALL SOMEONE DON'T DO IT.

Just MUTE the SOUND, search for your TASK MANAGER, and then use it to SHUT DOWN the WEBSITE that's telling you to call them!!!

I'm going to miss this message board.

It's too bad we can't see the movement of the paintings on YouTube. The opening credits are one of the best parts of this marvelous show.

Thanks for posting the art page Zwergin. A real find.

I'll trade you for the article that talks about all of Jude Law's clothing as the Young Pope:

There's a good slide show with details on some of the 'looks'. Trying to imagine a cashmere track suit!!

"Absence is presence". - Pius XIII (Lenny Belardo)

This is also pretty cool.
I will stay a few days in Rome starting tomorrow, maybe I should see if I can get myself a stylish white straw hat 😄

Thanks for the LINK BLU!!!

The RED FLOOR LENGTH SASH with the GORGEOUS GOLD STITCHING is my FAVORITE!!!

Since they also say things we see were HAND STITCHED that must have also taken FOREVER to make.

It's also quite a BIG SURPRISE to discover that he isn't wearing the typical FLEECE for his work out outfit.

And please also pick up one of those SUN HATS for me when you're in ROME.

Here's something else to PONDER:

As Pope Pius XIII in The Young Pope, Jude Law is sexy and he knows it. Unlike great narcissists of history, however, he doesn’t like showing off his beauty: He declines to reveal his face in his first public address to the faithful from St. Peter’s Basilica and forbids people from taking his photograph. He likes to maintain the papal mystique

What LENNY is doing is the same thing as PRINCE HAL does in SHAKESPEARE:

http://derkster.blogspot.com/2011/12/henry-iv-part-1-william-shakespeare.html

Prince Hal's Soliloquy Henry IV, Part 1 William Shakespeare

Prince Hal's Soliloquy (I.ii.173–195)

I know you all, and will awhile uphold
The unyoked humour of your idleness.
Yet herein will I imitate the sun,
Who doth permit the base contagious clouds
To smother up his beauty
from the world,
That when he please again to be himself,
Being wanted, he may be more wondered at
By breaking through the foul and ugly mists
Of vapours
that did seem to strangle him.
If all the year were playing holidays,
To sport would be as tedious as to work
;
But when they seldom come, they wished-for come,
And nothing pleaseth but rare accidents.
So, when this loose behaviour I throw off
And pay the debt I never promisèd,
By how much better than my word I am,
By so much shall I falsify men’s hopes;
And like bright metal on a sullen ground,
My reformation, glitt’ring o’er my fault,
Shall show more goodly and attract more eyes
Than that which hath no foil to set it off.

I’ll so offend to make offence a skill,
Redeeming time when men think least I will.

IN other words, BOTH PRINCE HAL and LENNY are being VERY CUNNING and MANIPULATIVE with their FOLLOWERS.

And one also suspects that LENNY may also have read this passage in this PLAY ...

which is probably also why he decides to PRETEND as if the DARK CLOUDS have COVERED UP his BEAUTY ...

so that when he BREAKS through them then his GOOD LOOKS will also be even more PRETTY than if he'd never had them HIDDEN by the CLOUDS and MISTS???

But LENNY also seems to have OVERLOOKED the other part of the passage that mentions how IMPORTANT it is to have some PLAY TIME???

‘The Young Pope’: Paolo Sorrentino Explains That Stellar Opening Sequence, Kangaroos and More

“As far as the opening sequence, its concern, I had the idea of the long walk of the Pope to tell the history of the Church,” said Sorrentino. “And so as he walks in front of all of those paintings, you’ll notice that in the paintings behind him present the history of the Church from the Year 0 to 2000.”

Another detail ties together the art. As the Pope passes each painting, we see that a shooting star leaps from painting to painting. Elements of each painting also move, often as a reaction to the shooting star, such as when St. Peter drops the keys to the kingdom of Heaven upon seeing the star. It should also be noted that the theme song playing is Devlin’s instrumental version of “Watchtower,” a single off of his album, “A Moving Picture.”

Sorrentino explained, “At the beginning is the shooting star that announces the birth of Christ. So you see from the beginning [of the walk] it’s the shooting star, but then like everything else in life, things don’t go well.”

Just as the walk is about to end, Law turns towards the camera and gives a saucy wink, which took about three or four tries to get exactly right. This breaking of the fourth wall lets us in on the joke just as the opening sequence makes its big finish in which the 10th piece of art [The Ninth Hour] is a nod to sculptor Maurizio Cattelan, who once made a rather controversial waxwork figure of Pope John Paul II felled by a meteorite. [The Ninth Hour represents Pope John Paul II lying on the ground after being stuck by a meteorite. The title of the work alludes to the moment when Christ cries out : “Why have you forsaken me?” and dies on the cross. This installation can also evoke other interpretations: perhaps Cattelan, a Roman Catholic, suggests the degradation of the Church as a result of scandals and quickly changing social values. Because the meteor has apparently fallen from the sky – literally from the heavens – it may interpreted be that God himself has assaulted the Church. As the Pope survives and clings to the Papal Cross, perhaps he represents the Church’s eternal fortitude. Oppositely, we may conclude that he is only a man and should not be venerated.]
