Lesbian couple

I'd be a little taken aback if I saw such an openly lesbian couple in my local pub here in 2020. To show it in this film in the 1940's when one is a member of the army is quite ridiculous and took me out of the film briefly.

I can only assume it was for woke reasons, but it's surprising that the wokeness was fairly suppressed in this film apart from that. They could have gone full woke and had many black and ethnic people in the pub if they wanted. I don't remember seeing many black actors in the cast which is strange considering they shoved that openly lesbian PC nonsense in here. Perhaps they felt that they had to tick at least one box and that was it?
