Nikolaj Lie Kas...

...showing what a versatile actor he is.

Has made some great comedies with Mads Mickelsen and Kim Bodnia as well as doing the last season of The Killing. Now dominating the screen as the charismatic amoral 'Sander

The Scandi's have some talented actors

Yes, yes, yes! Isn't he fantastic?

He nails the enigmatic Sander completely. The stares he gives through those great specs, donned probably less to see clearly than to create an image.

Have you seen him yet as the famous Carl Morck from the Department Q films?

I haven't but really want to, now.

Am at Book 4 right now of the Morck audio book series on my ipod, and the books just go from strength to strength.

Have not yet foraged deeply for an English subtitle version of the films, but hopefully they are out there someplace.

The books are too popular aren't they? Not to have the films in other languages internationally?

Fingers crossed anyway.

Nikolaj did not come to mind when envisoning Morck in the audio books. He seemed far less attractive and a lot more scruffy (even though various female characters DO seem to give him the eye frequently).

But to have Nikolaj as Morck would be wonderful. Gah!

I have seen the first two Carl Morck films.

They're pretty good as is the relationship between Morck and Assad (played by Fares Fares

Oh yes, Assad!

He makes those books for me. The way the reader does Assad is wonderful. He puts a touch of gentle humor in his voice in portraying Assad telling Morck various things he's come up with.

Sometimes, out on a walking path alone, I just laugh out loud at Assad like a weirdo.

Suddenly, by book 2, it seemed an odd character to include became a must-have.

I love it when Assad becomes the hard man for a moment, when he solves a problem for Morck. Just little glimpses into the "real Assad" from time to time. He's still waters run deep!

Reviews of the films say the actor who plays him is exactly like the Assad in the books. Though physically, the actor seems more attractive and perhaps younger, ha.

I would respectfully suggest that the time is ripe for you to watch these films.

I would be intrigued to know what you make of them, being such an avid fan

I came to them unawares, never having read the novels and therefore having no preconceived ideas about the characters. It is always fascinating to discover whether characters from a novel can be satisfactorily transferred to the screen, be it film or TV

I'm chipping in a bit late to this, having only just caught up with this intriguing series.

As with everything he does, Lie Kaas nails the character of Sander, with the focus always coming back to him, but with us being none the wiser. For the first part of the series we are not quite sure about him, as he has no life outside the job, and he is enigmatic and charming, but cold. I think that Nikolaj Lie Kaas is one of the most skilled and versatile young actors in the world. (And I say `young' because there are versatile and skilled actors a-plenty among the over 50's.)

I would recommend to you the movie series about Dept Q based on the novels of Jussi Adler-Olsen where he plays the cop Carl Morck.
Morck is very different from other Scandi cops, Wallander, Beck, etc., Colder, less loveable but not without his passions...and teamed up with Fares Fares as his Muslim partner. Chalk and cheese but it works really well.

I will check that out. According to IMDb, this series of movies begins with "The Keeper Of Lost Causes". Am I right?

I have now watched all 3 movies you recommended, Izzyennygood.

Thank you. They were beyond brilliant, and I now have even more respect for Lie Kaas. In all three movies I could not take my eyes off him. A charismatic and memorable performance.

Glad you enjoyed rven3.

He also has a comedic touch and I can wholeheartedly recommend to you two brilliant Scandi comedies

1 In China they eat dogs

and its sequel

2 Old men in new cars

The titles are completely irrelevant, as silly as the characters involved. Really funny
