Why didn't the Chief of Legal finger the boss re the killing of the journalist, witnessed by her son? Surely that would have been evidence enough to get her a deal, something new on Sodergren? Or is that the push for season 2? Even though he's dead now?

Well, its not like she has evidence linking the assassin to Sodergren. It would be her word against Sodergren's.
