Crap story, amazing graphics

The story of Appleseed Alpha is generic, derivative, nothing new or original. But cartoon graphics are becoming more and more amazingly film-like.

I agree, liked a lot more the previous Appleseed films storys, but this one really has a very good CGI animation.
The story of this REBOOT is not bad, but it is not good enough like the previous, which is more reallistic (if you can use that in a distopian Sci-fi story).

SPOILER

What i liked more in the prev Applessed is that Briareos is not a Cyborg until he got deadly wounded in battle, here he appears from the start.

I DONT LIKE the US voices, japanese voices are a lot better. I understand US are lazy and mostly uncapable of reading subtitles, it still ruins the films. US voices are totally overacted, always the guys making tough voices, it is really anoying, no one in real life speak like that, no soldier ever speaks like that. It seems like US people cant watch films if the guy doesnt make a voice of hard tough badass, which is plain stupid.
Also de personalities are horrible. Japanese characters are more complex and close to human reallity, while here you have the typical bad because he likes to be bad, the funny bad who is not that bad and the stright good innocent heroes. Seems US public cant deal with complexity, uncertainty and mixed personalities, all has to be simplisty and unreallisticaly white or black.

I have the same problem with Russians watching English(American) movies dubbed in Russian - the dubbed voice acting is horribly overacted. That being said, i find American dubbed voices are infinitely better acted than the Russian ones for example. I find American dubbed jap cartoons realistic and not at all distracting.

There was no Japanese dub for this movie. The English voice track is the original audio track.

reply

Yeah it was fun to look at but everything else is pretty much garbage.

Is the story really that bad? I saw the first two. On other sites everyone is saying this movie is awesome.

reply

It's not bad at all, it's just.. meh, nothing special

reply

I liked it. The haters are just wapanese whiners.

I agree, the graphics is indeed very nice, the finale sequence looks like it resembles something out of Metal Gear Revengeance. But yeah the story is just plain stupid, without any strong cause development

This Too Will Pass

Hmm I might just give this one a miss then. It reminds me of FF Advent Children. Pretty but crap story. Well I didn't like it anyway.

This seemed very much intended to appeal to western audiences. As a prequel it took place in post-apocalyptic americana, before our heroes discover the new utopia city of Olympus that most Appleseed stories take place in; and thus ends up looking like every modern video game. But it's still awesome! As one of the minority of Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within fans, I've been waiting years for more movies of that style, and we've finally reached the point where they're able to achieve something near that in direct to video releases.

The plot is thin, but much better than Advent Children or the Resident Evil CG movies. it's action-packed, beautiful, and well-paced, despite a somewhat sloppy introduction. To me, it was still the most entertaining Appleseed release since the awesome 2004 film. Anyone who liked Aramaki's previous CG effort, Starship Troopers: Invasion, should absolutely check this out, as I think it's even better. And if you haven't seen either, at least give that one a try on netflix and check this one out at redbox. I'd love to see this style of CG animation continue amongst all the super popular cartoony stuff.

A real missed opportunity here. The previous two blew my mind. I was so excited when I learned about this installment only weeks before its Redbox release. I was enthralled that the series had life after Ex Machina. Sadly, there just wasn't much to "Alpha". It was sorta just there. Seemed like they had no compelling story to tell. I was almost as bored as I was when I watched "Vexille".

The first 2 Appleseed movies were absolutely fantastic. I felt as if this one was catered more to casual viewers. Unlike the first 2.

reply

Pretty much.
The story is idiotic and nonsensical, but it looks nice.

Two horns has no reason to be a bad guy as there seem to be no opposing gangs, hell there is nothing to rule over why would he even need this gangster like structure and why would anybody fallow him ? He literally has nothing to offer his subordinates, no women, no money, no comforts of rich life, no drugs, nothing.
Also why he tries to kill our protagonist midway with that tank ?

Talos motivations make 0 sense as he wants to rule over an empty wasteland, dude you dont need a city sized robot for that, you can rule over snakes and sand with a shovel.

Iris self sacrifice was pointless, as was her mission. Thats another thing, who send her on that mission exactly and why ? Just let that machine rust in peace.

We never learn what eden is and how it even has the resources to build androids.

This movie was so badly written its sad to see.

ur comment is spot on on everything.
the movie starts with two horns SABOTAGING himself by sending men to kill(?) the 2 protagonists who are successfully returning from a job that HE sent them, and in the process the vaccine (or whatever they're carrying back) gets destroyed. wtf am i missing here?

And the big finale is that someone sends Iris which is the only thing that can *beep* activate the big ass robot in order to... deactivate it once and for all.

I liked the movie a lot,but nothing makes real sense in it when the viewer starts thinking
