The Appleseed series got sold out such a sad time for serious fans. :(

I may be German born and raised. But I met my 3rd gen Japanese American hubby in Medschool and he is also now a MD. But we both have US and or Japan/German family. Anyway I have family in Japan who are in the Animation industry and many have said the author to the series has sold out the franchise to western ventures. Its why Dunan looks NOTHING like her previous self in fact all the characters now have a Caucasian look and names despite the spoiler at the end. If you are a hardcore fan you would have noticed most of the players in the previous films and books had Japanese names and the artwork or CGI faces etc had Japanese features even Dunan had em.

Like the time in AS2 when she Terrius and Briarous (SP) were deciding on where to go either a beer hall or sports bar she look completely Japanese. And this film looks like it was made for the english speaker as its not synced to Japanese as I am fluent in it. This is what my industry family, friends and other fans have said. This is what happens when you let westerners in. And the CGI is totally western standards as it Japan its a now old CGI style. Look at some other films or series they are nearly photo realistic this film looks like the failed Sony US film.

The art is nearly identical to that old film which solely shut down its Hawaii studio, so the one poster who said they finally got the hair right is so out of date or is new to Japanese Animation as this is some very old CGI artwork dude. And the story was completely lame. Yeah change the whole story around and Dunan's outfit? So obvious, sexist and so immature. The character movements are stiff and its just awful. Lots of people in Japan take Animation very very seriously even to the point of death treats which happened to the writer of Evagilion. Who promptly made a redo. I loved appleseed especially reading the comic books but they destroyed it and the majority of fans had such high hopes but are very let down. Don't forget Japan to not like Caucasians like me much and most hate the US ones. And many blame the author for working with looks like yanks.

Well I won't be buying this on bluray lucky we saw it at a screening in Japan and man people were booing and all. We have dual citizenship and 2nd home there. we or my hubby and I collect Jpn Animation I hate show offs so I will only say its numbers in the high 6 digit range. btw no one in Japan calls it Anime only in the west. Again very disappointing. Evagalion 4 I bet will be great imo as again I have inside contacts. Oh and the west see's only about 10% of Jpn Animation films and series aka the ones that come with no english subs or dubs.

I'm glad to have minored in Japanese and Korean (my husbands stepmom is Korean). And speaking of subs and dubs a great deal is wrongly translated probably cause many Japanese words to not translate to english and I swear some dubs and subtitles actually change the emotion of a scene or the story itself. Yes its that bad imo the best way is to learn the language which is not hard my husband and I speak 4 languages mainly cause we had to as our extended families are 4 cultures, so not only to watch media. lol. ;)

Dr.Nichole A. MD. AKA Nicky was here.

I never revisit posts. Also too busy and mature to argue.

I understand that argument for some amines... but Deunen is an American from LA and Briarios is an African man from the Mediterranean who was granted asylum in America and is now a naturalized citizen.

I get what your saying, but there are several obvious white characters in anime that people get upset about and claim "white washing" (not saying your one) and I don't understand why. When they are obviously Japanese like Ghost in the Shell and they make them look white I find it kinda annoying, but in Appleseed I'm fine with the way Deunin looks.
