Any woman here thinks Poldark is gay?

Just wandering what's the general female consensus here.

I'm curious, what prompts this question. What might make you question whether he is gay?

reply

His behaviour towards women and men. Does it come off as gay to women?

reply

I can't speak for all women but it doesn't seem gay to me. What behaviour are you specifically referring to? Could it be something that is unique to the time period the show is set in?

reply

I just wander what women think, I wouldn't want to influence it with my opinion.
I'm a guy and I don't act like him in most situations (starting with making decent plans before action, not after).

But maybe you are right, it could be time related (but I always assumed men back then were MORE masculine than today, not less).

reply

Wives were expected to bear children and keep the home fires burning.
Poldark's behavior is in keeping for the period. Also as a member of the gentry, a mine owner, employer, and landowner Ross has a sense of duty as well as right and wrong not just to his own family, but to his tenants, employees, and community. Demelza is the perfect partner for him. She comes to understand her husband's obligations and her own as his wife. She is no shrinking violet, like Elizabeth Warleggan, but steps up representing him to his dependents and employees when he is away, keeping the estate together working at menial work when finances are tight. She influences his decisions, and is not afraid to speak her mind even when they are at odds. Ross respects her opinions and seeks her advice. She is in her way his equal. He comes to realize that he loves her with a depth that his youthful idealization of Elizabeth could never equal.
I don't see anything about him that is gay.
