I also hated, hated, hated IMDB's decision to remove the boards. And I agree with you that a lot of their traffic was due to the comments' boards. However, my guess is that IMDB wasn't able to monetize the boards' popularity. Perhaps people like us are not prone to click on ads, LOL!

And now they are altering the viewer ratings on the shows they create so we can even get honest review ratings for shows

I boycott IMDB. If interested in a movie I check Wikipedia or other sources first.
