Wasn't expecting so much puberty humor

No one in my household has read the book, so we went into this movie expecting some kind of A Christmas Story-Wimpy Kid mashup. We liked the 20-30 minutes we watched. We pushed through the early jokes (i.e. getting laid), but once the kid's friend got an erection because of the mom we turned it off - mostly because we didn't want to explain to our 6-year-old daughter what was going.

Same vibe here. It felt like an Adam Sandler movie. But Wishin is targeting kids, not teenagers. Strange.

Maybe don't expect a Lifetime movie to be appropriate for a 6-year-old, genius.

And, OMG, TALK TO MY KIDS ABOUT PUBERTY???! NO WAY! That's the school's job!

Sigh.

You talk to your kids about puberty, but is it really the right age for a six-year-old girl to talk about erections?

reply

Wow, jump to conclusions much? If I were do the same based on your one comment I would assume you're a 17-22 year old Yahoo comment troll who doesn't have kids. But I know that is probably completely off base. Although, all CAPS doesn't help you much.

And I don't leave sex education up to my school, that's all on me. However, due to my limited artistic ability, I let the school show my boys a cartoon of an ejaculating penis in health class.

You'd be wrong. I'm a 30 year old, college-educated, married, employed woman with kids, actually. But nice try, better luck next time. ;-)

reply

I know I'm picking nits here, but don't you mean I was right? After all I said you're probably not a troll who doesn't have kids. So neither luck nor a next time needed I guess. :)

LOL acaruso910! Exactly!!

For the record that scene was with Felix's oldest sister Simone not his mom and that was the one scene I felt really didn't work just because it didn't really fit the movie's otherwise gentle tone. Still I would think unless you have a particularly observant six-year-old it would have gone over her head.

Thanks for the clarification. And you're right about it going over my daughter's head. But with twin 10-year-old brothers snickering, it wasn't that easy.
