Surprisingly strong acting and production value!

A TV movie like this carries with it so much stigma of being bland and cheap, lifelessly upbeat. The performances were sunny, yes, but still human -- the aloof diner-owner father, albeit a minor character, comes to mind. Many of the big laugh-moments, such as the fat nun getting decked or the delivery of the dirty joke on the ranger show, did not come across as dialed in, but genuine. Beyond the confines of the sugary genre, there seemed to be an attention to detail and artfulness to the work, from camera movement to set design to line delivery. Something positive made with craft. Kudos.

I kept wondering if this was really a TV movie as the production is close to that of a big screen release. I think that the Russian girl got off lightly for knocking out the grumpy nun.
