Biggest failure in this movie...

How did this happen? After so many years why did we get a movie without a single scene with the Tall Man and Mike? As far as I'm concerned this is the most unforgivable flaw in this film. That is the core storyline in the Phantasm films! Oblivion ends with an amazing cliffhanger and it's barely even touched upon... Instead we get Mike essentially playing Kyle Reese... In fact does he even have 20 minutes of screen time? I can't even believe they screwed this up so badly. Angus Scrimm didn't even get a decent final scene in this, which has always been the bookend of these movies. Also... why in the world would you bring back the Rocky character and... NOT GIVE HER A SCENE WITH REGGIE?! Instead we're forced to watch her fend off and eventually give in to the advances of the most annoying character in the movie who should simply, and deservedly be DEAD. And to cap it off, he even gets the last line of the movie, and in effect the entire franchise. How? Why? What the hell just happened. I don't even know if I can appreciate this mess for being Angus Scrimm's last performance or even a nostalgic trip ... I could forgive this all if it actually felt like Phantasm... but it doesn't even do that. But no scenes between Mike and The Tall Man?! I'm as big if a phan of Phantasm 1 2 3 and 4 as you can get but... this is unacceptable.

Totally! You are so right! I've been trying to tell people the whole franchise was about MIKE and The Tall Man, NOT REGGIE and the The Tall Man. I also agree with everything else you said about the movie; it just failed on so many levels and was just an overall flop. I saw it in a theater and some people walked out on it. It was a total disservice to the late and great Angus Scrimm, whom I've met personally. Coscarelli really disgusts me, the guy is a jerk to let this garbage happen to the franchise. It's a disgrace. With Angus dead and this Ravager garbage, I'm just leaving this franchise behind.

Better not come back if you have nothing better to say

I laugh reading your comment as I am in agreement with you and have had similar thoughts and comments. I think over the course of the films, Reggie's character, which was more comedic relief, gained the spotlight and, for whatever reason, that was the direction the stories took. Yes, it was always about Mike and the Tall Man. With whatever screen time Mike had in this one, how much of it had anything to do with the Tall Man? I seem to remember it all about Reggie. When Reggie and Mike stepped into the portal to Tall Man's home, I was certain this was the moment we'd been waiting for where Mike and the Tall Man would have THE chat. Nope, they went there solely to "back up" Chunk (you're telling me Chunk was able to infiltrate Tall Man's entourage? Where's that red spiked sphere when you need it?) Anyone who watched this movie would think the story was about Reggie and the Tall Man. I think you summed it up perfectly when you noted it didn't feel like Phantasm.
