Phantasm needs a reboot J.J....

Just finished this sad excuse for a Phantasm movie. It was so awful and badly filmed I'll have an easy time simply forgetting it.

I'd love to see this series in the hands of a competent and creative filmmaker. Perhaps when JJ gets tired of Star Wars he could do something with it.

I agree it needs a reboot after this terrible attempt, but not by JJ. JJ would make the Tall Man a black transsexual and Reggie/Mike would be a couple.

I suspect a reboot WILL happen but it may take sometime. It's going to be a few years at least because of this abortion. Then again with all the negativity around this entry, studios may think no one will want a reboot.

Is the series well known enough for anyone to bother with a reboot?

I considered this series a cult classic. It was nowhere near as popular as Friday the 13th or Halloween or Nightmare on Elm Street but I think the original did well enough at the box office to warrant a sequel. I don't recall seeing that many trailers/promos beginning with the original, especially when compared with Jaws, Friday the 13th, etc. Still, I was a horror fanatic and went to see any horror film. Though I heard very little about the original, I enjoyed it. The Tall Man was terrifying! I also liked how each sequel picked up where the previous ended. It was rare to find movies that ended on a cliffhanger.

Personally, I think they need to leave Phantasm alone. Now that The Tall Man has passed, the opportunity to wrap this up in a nice bow is over. Finding someone to fill in or replace Mr. Scrimm would be a terrible move, especially for the fans who've followed this from the beginning.

Additionally, I don't recall there being much success with "reboots". I'm sure there are some examples but I think the failed reboots would far exceed the successful ones.

Oh, years ago, before this movie was a pipe dream--some studio had the idea of a big reboot for this franchise. They saw potential in the story for having a trilogy--Michael's character like the Luke Skywalker of horror, if I remember correctly.

People have interest in it for sure. J.J. Abrams loves it, and I am certain that is the avenue toward the reboot.

Abrams needs to stay well away.
