Serious or Farce?

Saw this on GOG.com and was wondering; is this a piss-take of the Jack Chick comics or are they doing this seriously?

And before anyone asks "how could they be doing this seriously?" There's a movie out about how a teenager bringing a couple of playboy mags into a lock-down allows demons to get in and attack and possess the teenagers... and that's played seriously!

Having watched part of the trailer, I still can't tell for sure, and I noticed a few lines from Mazes and Monsters so that's confused the hell out of me! I just don't want to give this any more time than I have to (and I certainly don't want to watch it) if they're trying to be serious about it.

Any thoughts?

It's supposed to be serious, which is why it's so funny.

It's a parody. What makes it even more amusing is that Jack Chick OK'd it, as he apparently didn't recognize it as parody.

It's made by the same folks that make JourneyQuest and The Gamers films.

In a way, it's both a parody and serious. Chick Publications gave them the rights to make a movie of their Chick Tract, on the condition that they do it faithfully. And they did. All you see in the movie is a completely faithful movie recreation of the events in the Dark Dungeons tract. They were even please by the result.

At the same time, however, the filmmakers played Chick for fools. By doing it as a serious and accurate adaptation, they showed how ludicrous and idiotic the tract is. They also inserted a large number of easter eggs and innuendo that gamers would get, like the "attacking the gazebo" joke from the Knights at the Dinner Table comic.

So, really, it would have been made as a parody, but they did it largely seriously, since there was no need to because of how ridiculous the source material is.

It's a parody, but played completely straight which is why it's so funny. Watching it now. This. is. Amazing.

I grew up with Jack Chick tracts. However crazy you think he is, it isn't even scratching the surface of his insanity.

Which film is that? It sounds like it'd be fun to watch.

Total farce and a piss take on the serious comic pamphlets but playing straight like the comic would.

The comedy comes from the comic which was taking itself seriously. People back then truly believed RPGs were demonic and witchcraft. Like heavy metal music.

And plus the name of the company who made it is Zombie Orpheus or some such. Doubt they would be taking this seriously. Plus their youtube page has a bunch of roleplaying videos on it.

Brilliant idea to take the hokey outdated comic and turn it into a movie thats winking at you the entire time. Especially today with tabletop gaming/rpgs/nerd stuff being super hot and jontron making a video about this movie. Smart move.

Its good but I was hoping and wishing that this was by a religious company and trying to make the film a serious one. Like so bad its funny instead of its a parody of something serious trying to be funny.

It is a serious filming of the message of the Chick tract 'Dark Dungeons'. It is just that the message itself is so over-the-top crazy that the film is a complete farce. That's it.
