Meryl Streep is the last person to play this role
She just doesn't look right for this role. She doesn't look like a washed-out rocker. She doesn't even seem to know how to play the electric guitar.

shareI agree. She's a 66 year old hagge. She looks like a long-retired washed-out rocker. Bad casting. Hey, they make movies to launder money anyway. ;p

Bad casting but nobody will tell Streep she can't do something, including make a movie with awful nepotism at the core. Plus we have the pleasure of more bad writing from the stripper scribe. Oh yay, can't wait to hear the bad reviews.

Maybe that was why she wanted the part.
shareWho should have played Ricki Rendazzo? The first two to come to mind are Julia Roberts and Sandra Bullock.
Ricki was not the typical Meryl Streep role. I thought she was pretty convincing as a struggling musician with a lot of baggage. But a few times I thought she looked like a suburban housewife gone astray. Sometimes unknown actors are more convincing than famous stars like Meryl Streep.
Meryl Streep's next movie is "Suffragette". She is playing a nineteenth century Englishwoman. And I think that is what many fans expect.
Meryl went out of her element here for sure. I thought she was great!

Who else could have played Ricki Rendazzo? I just thought of Linda Blair. I am not sure why. Maybe it is because she had a relationship with Rick Springfield. But Blair hasn't done much acting in recent years and I doubt she would be cast in the lead role of a major motion picture.
