Based On Real Event?

The film was shot in and around, Lemont, IL, a southwest suburb of Chicago, and at the end of the film a photo of a young woman is shown and a claim is made that the film is based on a real occurrence.

Does anyone know if there really was a factual basis for the film?

Free to those that can afford it, very expensive to those that can't

Most probably the Watseka Wonder case:

Keep in the mind the movie states it was "inspired" not "based" on true events.
This means, whatever events that did happen inspired the core idea of a completely fictional movie whereas "based on true events" means actual event reenactments were incorporated into the movie.
