Random But..What was up w/ the guy putting the mask on?

Like the title of the thread, why did the guy take the mask out of his bag, randomly put it on and just sit there next to Tess? Is that supposed to be a hallucination, an "artsy" thing that this movie is clearly trying to be, or his way of flirtation? Stuff like this throws me off- makes it so unclear. This happens about 15-20 minutes in. Is that supposed to be the guy that Lucy liked?

I thought they were outsiders looking at the "cool kids" standing in front of the store. The store had Trick or Treat written in the window. I think he's the same guy that walks up to Tess at the end that says "You know, I never did get your name."

I wouldn't think too much about that bit.

The guy liked her and just wanted her to notice him.

Sometimes we just think too much.
