Why do we need a disaster movie from Norway?

While I really liked the wonderful camerawork and of course the scenery, I'm still asking myself: Why do we need a disaster movie from Norway?

I mean, it's something like Dante's Peak in Northern Europe. Without Pierce Brosnan but with stupid dialogues.

reply

You don't need a disaster movie from Norway.
But then, it wasn't made for you. It was made for the Norwegian population. Since we know that what this movie is showing, is something that WILL happen at some point. Just like Americans know that the Yellowstone super volcano WILL explode at some point. The question is only when.
Still, even though it was made for Norwegians, we won't refuse you to watch it if you want to.

I'm from the U.S. and I thought this was an amazing movie. I was stressed 20 minutes in. It's a very good movie and Joner is a very good actor. Well, done!!!!!

reply

Because this is a unique type of disaster that pretty much only happens in Norway. And it happens, contrary to other disaster movie. This has happened before and will happen again.

reply

Actually, this has happened in other places as well, like Lituya Bay in Alaska, Vajont Dam in Italy, and Spirit lake it Washington. It is believed that it could happen in Hawaii, Cape Vert, British Columbia and the Canaries.

reply

Read about the situation in that region. It's quite tenuous and extremely frightening. It's a very interesting subject and the movie was suspenseful and beautifully shot.

reply

Why? Because other than The Impossible, we can't seem to make a lot of good disaster movies. Seriously, all the disaster movies like 2012, San Andres, The Day After Tomorrow, and countless other films like those have either been mediocre or complete sh!t. This was a pretty solid film.

reply

Why do we need Hollywood disaster movies?

reply

Why Not... we have to watch enough *beep* from the states. take San Andreas for one. laughable.

reply

Just stop it.

reply

Are you really that idiotic?

reply

Americans are hilarious in their insularity!

(Hint: the world isn't all about you. There are billions of people having lives that have nothing to do with the USA. Sorry if that's a shock.)

You can make your own choice on watching this or not, of course, but it's way ahead of recent commercial Hollywood rubbish like San Andreas.

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

Trust me, it drives me insane, but to be a little fair to the isolationist morons, our government has systematically defunded education so that we can all be good little capitalist consumers without questioning it or revolting.
