The families -contains spoilers

So the family that was murdered 10 years ago - David was part of.

Then 2 more families moved in before the current family. Why was there still a box of David's stuff in the garage? The other families didn't get rid of it? I thought all the stuff in the garage was from the previous owners who just "left" or was killed by David.
