Guilty pleasure

I don't feel guilty about loving the second Wrong Turn movie which is arguably the best in the series. Wrong Turn 6 on the other hand... Rewatched it last week and was surprised how much I liked it. No-one will ever accuse this of being a masterpiece because it's simply not a very good movie. The sense of continuity to the rest of the franchise and the hillbilly-mythology is all over the place, but I have to be honest; I genuinely enjoyed it. Especially since it had few expectations to live up to after the series have gone downhill over the last decade. Some of the reasons why it worked for me were…

- A return to the forest area again after the urban # 5, and the snowy # 4.

- I liked the idea of a whole village of mutants. Imagine the bloodshed going up against that in future sequels.

- So much sex and nudity I almost thought the director wanted to make a meta commentary on the usage of T&A in horror (although that's probably giving him too much credit).

- Not an overload of sympathetic characters (as usual), but I liked Toni since she constantly stood up for Danny, was set up as the obvious final girl and even acted on it at the end. Not that it saved her life of course…

- The love triangle between Toni, Sally and Danny, culminating in Sally convincing Danny that inbreeding is the way to go! It made the morbid ending seem less mean-spirited since it was so hilariously bizarre.

- The constant douchebaggery of Jillian and her boyfriend made their deaths seem fittingly karmic. Goes for most of the cast really.

- Strangulation by vagina and inflation by fire hose.

- This felt more like a sidestory in the WT-universe. Some would say that's a bad thing, but I think it was an improvement over the fifth which just felt like a parody.

- The underlying message of the movie which seems to be; "Don't try to help your friend when he needs you, he'll be the death of you all!"
