Robert and Sol

Does anyone else find Robert and Sol extremely annoying? I think Robert is stuck up as *beep* and mostly self-centered. He's like a giant rich hot-headed baby and once Sol starts making those over-the-top, do-something-I'm-helpless, it's-not-my-fault faces I just wanna punch him. And that's been the case since the first season, which I thought was gonna go away.

On the other hand, I ADORE Frankie, love Grace and like the rest of the supporting cast. Still gonna keep watching it, because overall, I'm a huge fan.

reply

On the contrary. I only watch this show because of them. Frankie and Grace are just... Gross Gross Gross

reply

To each their own, I suppose but why "gross, gross, gross?"

reply

Why are you replying my comment?

reply

Dodging the question, I see.

reply

This is the problem: That's not the topic question!

reply

I wouldn't necessarily say that they're extremely annoying, but I've said for a while now that I could very happily watch the show without them being in it. To be honest, I was really kind of hoping that they wouldn't actually get back together after the whole Sol / Frankie thing. But, they did.

reply

I think their scenes are OK, and necessary, but not as good as the kids' scenes or Frankie & Graces. Sol is the worst of the two - such a wet lettuce

looking Venice Beach, feeling Dagenham

reply

It's hard for me to care about Robert and Sol after what they did to their wives.

reply

This ^^^^.

reply

agreed....I find them so selfish

The flat-brimmed baseball cap is the modern-day dunce cap.

reply

I like all four characters. However I find Frankie and Grqce's friendship quite authentic and believable. Robert and Saul's relationship doesn't seem believable yet. Idk if it's because of discomfort with portraying authentic homosexual love on the part of the actors or writers. But I am not sold on their love.

reply

Robert and Sol are always arguing and have nothing in common. They have different values, politics, lifestyles, hobbies. They seem way more like the couple that should be divorcing than the husbands & wives. They've had 40 years to figure out who they are they shouldn't be having so many arguments about absolutely everything at this point unless they are just completely annoyed with and tired of each other.

reply

Exactly, it's seems a bit all over the place. You'd think after 40 years of wanting to be together everything would be pitch perfect - for their age, they are tremendously immature.

reply

Yes I think they're very annoying. Especially Sol's child-like behaviour. I can't stand Coyote either. The whole plot with Mallory and her husband was stupid too. Mallory was mad because Coyote shouted some things (while he was an addict) I mean please...

reply

I agree with everything you've said, except for the "can't stand Coyote" part, despite the fact they've made him look, sounds and act like he's been on heroin ever since he started walking. I think he's lovely but that Mallory vs. Coyote drama was truly unnecessary because it doesn't make sense at all. You'd think he threw her child off a balcony judging by her reactions. But with S2, I believe they've improved a lot when it comes to these exaggerated situations just for the sake of "drama."

reply

Dear god yes! The two of f them simper at each other and coo or fight like girls. Their scenes are bad and are getting worse. I just finished season 2.

The writers cant figure out what to do with them. The two actors ham it up on weak material and it is bad bad BAD!

This makes me think that neither the writers or the actors ever met a gay man.

reply

This makes me think that neither the writers or the actors ever met a gay man.

Really? I think they portray 70 year old gay men that have been in the closet for 50 years quite well.

Maybe you don't understand aging gay men.

reply

Hmmm, being aged myself, I have a LOT of gay men friends who are 45 - 75. But it is true that they were not in the closet, even recently.

reply

Its Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston so no

In fact i would go so far to say Martin Sheen is the most talented actor in the whole cast

reply

YUP. I just think they are mis cast...they aren't believable to me...dont know why..it just doesn't work, for some reason..

But the characters aren't likable for me either... I just cant believe Martin Sheen or Sam Waterson as gay men.

reply

What I don't like about the Sol/whoever subplot is neither of those actors are particularly good at comedy. So it's all a little cringe-y.

reply

Cringe-y, I agree. The show could do very well without Sol and Robert. Grace and Frankie are just fine on their own!

reply

It's surprising how well Jane Fonda is doing comedy in this show. Lily Tomlin is the only one of the four with a comedy background, so of course she does it very well.

reply

❤️️
But Jane Fonda has done comedy. Just to name a few that I like,
Period of Adjustment
Any Wednesday
Barefoot in the Park
Cat Ballou
and she and Lily were both extremely funny together in 9 to 5

reply

Seeing Jane and Lily reunited, that's just another bonus of the show for me!
9-5 is a favourite of mine and it's very satisfying to watch.
Now if they could just work Dolly into the plot of Grace and Frankie somehow😂

reply

❤️️ LOL!
Dolly would be great! I wish they could come up with a character that she could play!

Check out that thread about Lily and Dolly. I made that link clickable....
