Coyote is only 12 years younger than the actress who plays his mom

They really needed an older actress. They looked nearly the same age.

They should have had Dolly Pardon play his born again Christian birth mother. They could have had her sell her baby to pay for her first plastic surgery.

I was thinking the same thing.

reply

Well he was really into drugs right? Hah, it could have aged his character..

reply

I don't think we were ever told how old Coyote's biological mother was when she had him....she could've been really young like 15 or something and the actor playing Coyote's character is likely older than Coyote is supposed to be.

I am pretty sure the small age difference between Coyote and his biological mother was on purpose, in order to imply that she had him at a very young age like 13,14 or 15, and she also served as a juxtaposition to the much older Frankie and to fuel her jealousy.

reply

It wasn't to fuel her jealousy, it was to illustrate that that the birth mom had Coyote when she was very young and unable to care for him. Frankie wasn't jealous of the birth mom. She was afraid that she would lose Coyote just when he was getting his life back together. She was afraid of this even before she laid eyes on the woman. When she turned out to be pretty, pleasant and sweet natured that fueled her fear. Not envy.

I agree - I kept thinking apparently she was reeeeallly young when she had the baby... The actress is 49 IRL and the Son is 38 IRL. Just a 11 year age difference! LOL

I get in the show the son is probably supposed to be 30ish? but it still looked funny to me because they literally just looked so similar in age. Was just a bit surprising at first.

But I get that's the impression they were trying to go for, especially given her backstory etc, and the actress did a good job.

The impression I got was that his biological mother got pregnant with him as a teenager and b/c she was from a conservative, Southern family, she had to follow through with the pregnancy and then give him up for adoption but none of this was ever made known to her later family. I can't remember if anything was explicitly said to indicate that was what happened but that was just the impression I got.

I don't find this too far-fetched, as I'm from "the South" and two girls in my pretty wealthy, private high school got pregnant and mysteriously "studied abroad" for a semester. But we all knew what really happened and everyone respected their privacy and most of us didn't ask them too many questions. This was the early 90s...so yeah, I guess there's still a taboo attached to teenage pregnancy, esp. if you're from a well-to-do family.
