My thoughts

Hawke and Travolta were both in great form, as was the rest of the cast. I loved the relationship between the main character, his dog and his horse. There’s nothing like riding a horse as your dog follows. I did it both in real life and in Fable II, I just love it. The script was solid but some parts made me roll my eyes and I think the last act could have been a bit better. Otherwise I didn’t find it really violent but it was interesting enough and I appreciated the way that the relationship between the two enemies developed. 6.5-7/10

I watched this one today and really enjoyed it.

I think they borrowed a little too much about John Wick, what with the highly-skilled-combatant-avenging-his-dead-dog motif, but considering how close the two films were in their release dates, it could just be a coincidence.

As you said, I think the cast did a great job. They really brought this film to life in a way that wouldn't have happened with more bland actors. It was also nice to see John Travolta again in a movie that's actually good.

Speaking of the cast, it's amazing how small the cast actually is. It's just a few main players and a few people who show up in small bit roles and that's it.

The story was simple, but I found it effective. Overall, this was just a surprisingly good western that came and went without anyone noticing.
