The hate for Gleib....

I too could not stand the guy when my wife had me start watching the show but after watching quite a few episodes, I think he's funny. He comes up with stuff pretty quickly but he is strange that's for sure. I guess it's more of an acquired taste.

If he wasn't an a-hole to the guests, it wouldn't be as funny.

I have flipped over to this show during commercial breaks of other shows a few times.

While the silly games are somewhat amusing, the annoying host keeps me from wanting to watch a whole episode. He violates all the rules for emcees of game shows going back to the 50s. Even Chuck Barris on The Gong Show knew that you were supposed to be nice to the contestants, even after they got gonged.

Most of his "quips" sound terribly scripted. They do not make me laugh--well, maybe 1 out of 15 does, but a nightclub comic telling 15 jokes will not generate much laughter from an audience that thinks only 8% of his jokes are funny.

The other thing I dislike is that he seems to think we tune in to hear his stupid jokes instead of see the contestants play the game. I tire of waiting and waiting for him to quit yakking and continue with the game.

I think this show has some promise, but they need to revamp the elements I have described to build an audience.

Exactly; he seems to believe that the point of the show is for him to make fun of the players. It often seems like he doesn't know how to respond when the player gets a puzzle right; it's as if he was so looking forward to embarrassing them, he's disappointed that they didn't give him an excuse to insult them.

I fast forward everything but the actual game parts. I just can't stand looking at or listening to the host. Why do they keep him around?

reply

I just started doing that too! I watch only for the puzzles. Skip the banter, I say. :)

Since I wrote that, he's actually grown on me, maybe I even like him. We still tend to fast forward to the puzzles, however when I fail to he no longer irritates me.

But he's so damn sexy. Makes up for it all.

I thought I was the only one who didn't like this guy
