Did the mom keep saying they couldn't leave even before they were touched?

No, but I think she had to wait on the social worker's write up.

I am confused what exactly happened to the father, and why she didn't have a job. Missed some words due to the volume issues.

They didn't have money to move. I was also wondering what her job was. I don't think they mention that, at all. And they did leave, the kids went to summer camp. After they were burned by the entity in the wall they were confined to the house.
I really enjoyed this movie, and how much it made me think.

I really liked it too, the science fiction twist was clever.

Still, why were they burned? Or confined to the house at all? If it was a spirit or something I can see how it can keep them or harm them but it wasn't?
