good movie , left unfininshed in the end

director should have taken extra time to finish , after the time travel.
why did the boy turned into mindless killer from future?

SPOILERS:

After the events at the end of the movie, the boy tried to blow up the building for the company as revenge for his mother. He was arrested and they did experiments on him (just like the guy said, "human experiments on prisoners")

They scrambled his brain and were teleporting him. I am not sure whether they actually meant to send him back in time, or if that was just some kind of error with the experiment.

He was a violent prisoner with his brain scrambled, so he was super pissed every time he showed up in his old house. He didn't recognize that it was his house and family, but it did look like he had some memories come back when he saw the volcano science fair project in the basement.

Also, I don't think the mom was "right" when she showed back up in the end. She had a real evil look on her face. I don't get that part....

Lol. I fully expected her son to get stabbed in the back, during that last scene hug. So, you're definitely right about the mom not coming back right.. Which leads me to my point. I'm guessing that along with the echo experiments, and the time travel, something makes them evil. They wouldn't name the film "Diabolical", if it didn't.. Their explanation on everything was so vague, so it leaves us with more questions, than answers.

More like it makes them sociopaths; no moral compass which after so many jumps could turn someone violent. The mom maybe off, but probably not at the killer stage.

My interpretation:
The Camset using the project Echo sent Jacob (the son) back in time to kill or make run away the family from the house because the house was intended to be used as a future expansion of the Camset (remember the guy of the Camset holdings?)
Camset plan failed with Jacob so they sent back in time the mother to fix things. In this way Jacob will not be arrested (and so no brainwash and different timeline ) and the house was safe for the Camsat interest.

A plothole that i've noticed is about the "allergic reaction" on the kids if they try to leave the house. It was clearly a gimmick to keep the family in the house during the movie but it wasn't explained or resolved in any way or maybe i missed that.

Two Things I didn't understand.

- Why had only the kids this allergic reaction and the mother had not?

- If the Camset wanted to get rid of the family why didn't they sent back professional killers or at least not the family members?

reply

I don't think Camset wanted to 'get rid' Of the family. They were just doing teleportation experiments to their other lab, which 40+ years in the future was in the spot where the house used to be. They never realised they were going back in time as the people would have just ended up in the house and had no idea they were in the past, that and the fact their brains were scrambled. Obviously when the mother came back they've realised what they've been doing and fixed her up and sent her back. She obviously is never the same again, hence Jacob tries to burn down the facility, it's now become a self fulfilling time loop.

I thought the fact that the kids couldn't leave but the mother could was due to their having been "burned" by a Future Guy. I'm only guessing this due to what the mom reads online about the scientist who couldn't leave his lab after experimenting with certain chemicals - something that must have been included for a reason (I suppose!)

And as I've posted elsewhere, the DVD commentary dropped strong hints re a sequel(s.)
