Unimpressed by the season finale

I give the first season 3 stars as a whole but the season finale was not good. Burns needs to get better at his pacing and structure. Even Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad finished their first season with a big final scene. The final act in this was Charlie and Fortune.

reply

I just came here to see if I had missed an episode or something. The "season finale" just kind of...petered out.

reply

Yep no big moment. Burns is seeing this too much as a movie instead of as a hybrid of long story but with a crescendo every 10 episodes.

reply

Absolutely, 100% agree. I still like the show and if it's picked up, I will continue to watch. But the season finale was incredibly anti-climactic. And...SPOILER ALERT!!

I can't believe he killed Patton! And by "he," I don't mean Rusty. I mean Ed Burns. Mafia or not, I loved Dennehy's character, and was sad to see him go. But it was very predictable the way it happened. I actually cringed the minute I saw him get in the car.

reply

Ending it on Bull and Fortune was a huge mistake. He could've put that scene in the middle of the episode. Act 3 should've ended on Patton's car exploding and seeing the fallout and story getting out there ending with Terry's line (I'm approximating) "Most of these guys are never caught" as he walks out of the house and getting on the job.

I agree.....should have ended with the car bombing.

reply

Agreed. The Bull-Fortune was one of the least interesting side stories. I found it hard to believe that a seasoned vice cop would fall for a hooker. But as the Captain said it does happen. If the writers were going with that story line one of the younger vice cops should have been the one involved. Bull should have been the hardened intimidator on the squad. Like Popeye Doyle. Instead he was written as a softy.

reply

No offense but don't be a tv writer lol yes perhaps it should of ended with the car bombing but i'm satisfied with the ending. I could care less what is first, middle or end of this episode. So long as everything is in it and it was. Bull/Stacy angle, Patton death, Thomas murder, Rusty running etc... And personally I don't think Rusty was the one who bombed his dad. He's more of a gun guy and it would be too obvious if it was him... that sets it up for 2nd season.

reply

I Agree, It was to obvious, I thought the Patton character was very good for the story and I also cringed once he got in the car. I thought if it don't explode due to a Bomb they both are getting shot

reply

SPOILER ALERT OP - YOU ARE OUT OF ORDER.

reply

What's going on? The Season Finale doesn't air until Oct. 20, 2015.

reply

These must be people that watched the Labor Day weekend when they could streem (stream?) all the episodes.

I thought the same thing too and quickly checked my DVR schedule.

reply

You are correct.

reply

Overall pretty poor, like most TNT fare.
Safe, middle of the road. predictable, lame acting, unimaginative scripts

reply

Couldn't agree more.

I looked this up on IMDB tonight convinced there must be more than ten episodes to this season since I couldn't believe that's how the season would have ended. What a waste!

reply

I actually like this show but that ending was just bad. Just end the episode with the car bombing.

Thats a clown question , BRO.......

CLOSE the FRIGGEN BORDER ALREADY!!!

reply

I agree. I was really surprised when the ending credits appeared right after Fortune knocked everything down from the mantle. I really enjoyed the show and will continue to watch next season but I was disappointed in the season finale. Wish we would have see Richie in more scenes than just driving to the farm. I would have liked to have seen the result of telling the girlfriend that her man was killed.

My guess is the entire episode was written in an anti-climatic way in case the show didn't get picked up for season 2.

reply

You never go anti-climatic for an ending for a first season series you need to close on a big moment or shock basically daring the network to cancel you. Hannibal season 2 is a prime example of it.

reply

Seriously. When the episode just ended up with James Brown playing in the background, I literally was like WTF? Ed Burns literally took a crap on his own work with that nonsense. My goodness.

This show is one and out. There will be no season 2.
