When will we know if it's cancelled or renewed?

Any idea?

TNT effectively burned it off. It was announced before Kevin Reilly got the job. This is one and done. Ratings were horrific.

We should find out in the next couple weeks from TNT. They usually wait a bit till a couple weeks after the season ends. Again if TNT doesn't renew I'm sure Ed will find a way to continue it whether on Netflix or turning it back into a film as it was originally going to be.

I dont see Burns getting funding to continue the series as a film after not being able to get funding for 1-2 film projects over the past 15 years or so.

reply

Visually I can't fault it, but everything else, it was a turkey. Shame.

I really do hope the show gets renewed, I thought it was quite good.
The casting is excellent and the characters are very interesting with a lot of potential for really good storylines. I do believe alot of people thought it was not dark and gritty enough, but I thought it had a very 60's feel to it and very New York (I especially loved all the outside street scenes, Mad Man usually avoided those). Sometimes shows have a very strong 1rst season and after that the writers run out of ideas and the show get's weaker and weaker, but sometimes it's the other way around. I think this show has a great potential to be like one of those shows that become better. The first season introduced the characters, the setting and the tone of the show, the 2nd season can go deeper now and explore the characters and with Patton gone Hells Kitchen is probably at the brink of a big gang war. I will be keeping my fingers crossed that there will be a 2nd season!

I really liked it as well, and I saw Ed Burns pitching it on my demand channel today. My guess is he wouldn't be there if its fate was decided.

reply

I totally agree with you. The way Ed's been talking about it in his memoir, Twitter, and interviews he's going to go deeper into it and actually start casting the real life mobsters from that era as the Irish Westies came about and actually went head to head with the Italian mafia. Plus, with the cop storyline he made it sounds like it will go the way of Al Pacino's film "Serpico" where the FBI will eventually get involved and they'll get busted. All of this added to the personal lives of the cops as well it has me excited. Plus, I also just want to see the "Brothers McMullen" reunion he's planning as he wrote roles for the actors who played his brothers in that movie for season 2.

Has anyone heard anything new lately? No news yet?

reply

Nothing yet. It did get mentioned in an article yesterday as Rashida Jones' new TV show on TBS is getting a binge watch style premiere of it's first season and how "Public Morals" had good numbers for their Labor Day binge watch. TNT and TBS are sister networks. It sounds like some networks are thinking of doing this with more and more of us binge watching shows.

This silence is getting annoying. Does it usually take this long for them to decide whether a show is renewed or cancelled? I mean, they need to go into production if it's renewed, and they can't afford to wait too long for that, surely.

reply

Yeah, the show seemed to just drop off the face of the earth. I was enjoying it.

reply

Still waiting for the news.....and the wait is not a good sign.

reply

It doesn't make sense to just leave it hanging. They'd have to start shooting soon, no?

Any word from Burns lately? Last I heard he seemed confidant that the second season was coming.

reply

They are being slow about it. Wouldn't surprise me now if we don't hear anything about it till after the holidays. As for Ed, he's been pretty quiet lately on Twitter but he usually is when he's writing and working on his next project. He is also working on 2 films, "The Brothers McMullen" prequel and a sports biopic "Turk" he's producing and co-starring in as the famous hockey player Derek "Turk" Sanderson's father (sounds like they're recasting Derek). So again we just have to wait and see what happens.

reply

Sadly it did get cancelled. I feel so bad for Ed and the whole cast & crew. I noticed Ed still hasn't said anything on Twitter but he must be taking this hard. It was such a passion project for him and he had 5 seasons planned out. Does make me wonder if he'll try to make it back into a movie or focus on making his other films now.

reply

What are the chances it gets picked up by Netflix or Amazon? I think the potential is there, and I like Ed.

Maybe the freedom gained creatively would help?
