Juvenile, stupid, not even mildly amusing

This is the first show in a long time I couldn't watch. This makes Hobo with a Shotgun look like genius.

Next time I'll just burn 3 bucks, I'll enjoy it more.

reply

Agreed. I like quirky comedy but this is just too stupid.

You must live a sad, boring life.

I agree. Poor them šŸ˜”

Kind of makes me wonder how they're able to sit down with those huge poles stuck up their asses.

If they were on Angie Tribecca, we'd see how. šŸ˜€

It never ceases to amaze me when people result to personal attacks on a site dedicated th sharing information and OPINIONS about ENTERTAINMENT. I was taught never to discuss religion or politics because it can get personal. Guess Dad should've included TV in his advice.

You really think people posting things like "this show is so stupid" are here for a discussion?
They are posting it to annoy those who like the show and they think it makes them feel superior because they are too smart to think the show is funny.

That's quite an assumption. And I fear it says more about you than about the posters.
Are you (feeling) inferior and less intelligent?

IMHO the discussion boards are there to share opinions.

This series is not for me; it's not the kind of humor I like.
Luckily everyone is different. There would not be much to discuss if everyone had the same opinion ...

So please enjoy the show. :)

Rally? What's left to discuss after an opening that basically says this show is !00% bad and juvenile implying viewers are lacking intelligence. If you hate it that much you stop watching, no discussion is going to change that.

reply

Itā€™s interesting to hear why people arenā€™t responding to it on a large scale, considering thereā€™s been a degree of decent press, but the reviews seem rooted in nostalgia, always referencing bygone shows and movies, as this series has no identity of its own. Many have noted ā€œWreckedā€ is a parody of a long vanished series ā€œLost,ā€ but itā€™s doing better than ā€œAngie Tribecaā€ which isnā€™t lampooning contemporary police procedurals but 80ā€™s buddy cop shows. There was a big virtue in having Leslie Nielsen send up his formerly serious image, but Rashida Jones isnā€™t associated with dramas or cop shows so she merely registers as blank. Overall, you get a sense of everyone trying too hard whereas the acting in ā€œAirplaneā€ and ā€œPolice Squadā€ never seemed self-aware, making it uproarious.

It certainly doesn't say that.
You can be intelligent and still love juvenile and bad humor.
IMHO It is a matter of taste, not intelligence.

Compare it to junk food - you can enjoy it and still be intelligent - simply a guilty pleasure".

reply

Sorry it's not to your taste. Good thing there's an OFF button. Maybe we'll meet on another board.

I guess we have different tastes. I think this show has some pretty clever gags, including the names of characters and the puns on cliches from cop shows. Sure, some things are juvenile--the dog, for instance--but they are funny in context. Honestly, after watching the first episode, which made me lol several times, I thought, "That was good, but how long can they keep it up?" Now I have watched 5 episodes and still find it fresh and very funny.

reply

Fair enough. And you're right. I haven't ever really been into campy stuff.....since Batman on TV anyways.

reply

The dog is one of the best things about the show.

Get on the scale son! Get off the scale.

reply

The show is juvenile ON PURPOSE that's the objective of the satire

Slapstick. Either you like it or you don't. I remember people absolutely hating Top Secret and the Naked Gun movies with the same kind of criticism.

That must make me juvenile, stupid, and easily amused. Make no mistake about it, this is no world class TV show. But it's definitely entertaining/amusing IMO.

reply

Agree, OP. I totally get they were going for the campy/silly comedy - But ultimately most of the gags and jokes made me want to cringe - not laugh! I couldn't even muster a nervous laugh, because I found myself shrinking in my chair cringing more and more as I watched (hoping it would get better) until I simply had to switch it off for my own sanity.

I agree with another poster that said it felt like an amateur self-written teenaged stage show. I personally didn't find it entertaining or amusing, but that's not a slight to any who did.

I feel like the tone overall was difficult to grasp. You knew it was off-beat and satirical, but it never really found an appeal past groan-worthy lines and gags.

Cringing, that's the right word, like you felt bad for them having to say the lines.
