Season Finale

What a dumb ending. It was starting to wrap up everyone's storyline well - a little too much closure. Then Lolly gets all psycho over something that wouldn't even happen. She seemed so cool and then got childish again.

reply

I think Lolly was lying about being okay with Kevin and Becca being into each other. She was only okay with it as long as Kevin didn't have a chance. The minute she realized that Kevin did have a very big chance, she was no longer cool with it and she blew her top. I felt really bad for Becca. She was clearly taking that 'bad person' thing to heart. She was trying to make up for past mistakes and it still all blew up in her face.

Becca should have said she did have feelings for Kevin when Lolly asked her. Lolly should've figured as much since Becca was gone overnight and said they only talked. I know it's a plotline, but it's not a stretch to think perhaps in the next 20 years Kevin would meet Becca and get to know her, hence the apricot jam comment, so there was no need for her to get all upset. Lolly was under the mindset that Becca would take all her future boyfriends away.

Growing up in the 90's I remember that being interested or dating someone your best friend really really liked was kind of a no no. In fact you just might kiss your friendship goodbye by acting on it. The concept "Bro's before Hoes'" or "Sisters before Misters" did not came out or became mainstream until sometime during the early 2000's probably through some rapper (I think... or not...whatever). Though there were known to be friends back in the 90's who wouldn't let some girl or guy get between their friendship.

Even today, some people will pretend to be okay if their best friend ends up dating someone they were into. Some people just can't handle it and some will not be okay about it no matter how much they say they are while it's happening right before them.

Lolly's reaction to Becca telling her the truth about what happened in the previous life at the end of the season finale to me was not surprising. If you think about it, a bad person would do or keep something like that from their best friend. Even though it wasn't Becca's intention for everything to play out the way they did, she had the chance to tell Lolly many many times. Lolly even begged Becca in earlier episodes. The truth might have not been nice to hear at first but it might have soften the blow down the road. Then again she said nothing. Friendship might be ruined again.

Lolly also liked Kevin for years. He was not just some "Guy" to her. Becca knew this and you would think from previous experience she would have done the right thing for her friendship's sake, but she held out for a potentially better opportunity thinking deep down things will work out in her favor.

Someone said in a previous thread that Lolly needs to grow up. So, maybe it's just me, but I think Lolly has the right to put some distance to reevaluate her life and friendship with Becca. Whether she needs to grow up or not.

Becca might have mishandled things so far by going back to her past, but lets see how it'll play out from here on out. That is if we do ever get a season 2.

I just wanted to comment on your statement that "Bros before hoes" wasn't a thing in the mid-'90s. I actually remember saying it to my best friend (who is a guy, and I'm a girl) in high school, (the beginning of senior year, which would have been in '95, coincidentally), because I was considered "one of the boys", and I felt like he was ditching out on his friends for a girlfriend. Although now, looking back, I was just jealous because I liked him, and of COURSE he was going to hang out more with her, because she took his v-card! No 17 year old boy is going to pass up having sex with a girl over hanging out with a bunch of dudes and one girl who was NOT having sex with him, lol. But anyway, I clearly remember saying "bros before hoes" to him. I didn't hear "sisters before misters" until much later, but we did sometimes say "chicks before dicks".
Anyway, I'm super bummed that this got canceled, after they had said it had been renewed. Wish there was a way to get it back on! This is My So-Called Life and Freaks and Geeks all over again! Another awesome show canceled too soon!

I don't think she was going psycho. I mean I think I would have a pretty similar reaction. Since Becca came back she has been very controlling and selfish. She tells Lolly not to be involved with her brother and that she is the reason for him OD'ing in the future, she leaves Sean at the alter, she goes after Andy knowing he is in a relationship, basically the girl is a selfish B. She should have taken the opportunity to actually "live" and have no regrets and not be so concerned with other people's business. More importantly, she should have told Lolly from the get go why they no longer speak. Her character is just written to be so unlikeable, I don't get why people even feel badly for her. Like I've said she just lies and manipulates but she justifies these actions bc "she knows the future".

I like this show I hope it gets renewed but I also hope they start figuring out where they want this to go and further developing characters. And where is the guy that supposedly sent her back in time. I wish they ended it w a shot of him on the otherside of the elevator. I cry.

The whole point is, she knows what's going to happen to some degree:

- It's not going to work out with Sean, so obviously leave him at the altar.

- She knows there's no passion for Andy, so dump him.

- She lets Lolly know she has trouble telling guys (Jamie and Kevin) how she feels about them, dragging and lingering on forever, when it would save everyone time.

- She's stuck in the same job position for 20 years so she quits.

She is solving her problems. My guess is she stopped seeing Kevin soon after Lolly's friendship was over, so she never had a chance to date or marry him.

In that regard, Lolly needs to grow up and move on. She lives in New York with 4 million men, not in Iowa.

reply

Yeah, no. The whole point is you never know what may happen. The whole point is you can't control how things turn out in the end. Changing one thing could lead to another large change aka Kevin coming into the picture much sooner.

Oh and are you watching the same show? No passion for Andy? She only backed off him after the car accident bc she felt guilty.

Woohoo. The only thing she did that was beneficial was change jobs! You're right this girl is on fiiiirreee.

Becca is a big girl she had the chance to work on her relationship with Sean so it wouldn't go down the same path - do you really believe she had nothing to do with it and it was all his fault!? Or she could have told him she didn't want to get married and been truthful so he wouldn't have been blindsided. Instead she just banged one out with him and made it seem like she had cold feet.

The girl is selfish. And I'm pretty sure that if your best friend started a relationship w the guy you openly liked and hid it from you NOT once but twice, you'd be upset too. This isn't about Lolly being jealous. She is hurt and feels lied to and now doesn't feel like she can trust her. She also knows all she has done and sorry I think Becca isnt a good person, as well. She needs to be knocked off her throne.

reply

I love how some of you people are putting the whole onus on Becca with the Kevin thing. He knew Becca was married the first time around and he pursued her anyway. Aggressively, I might add. He knew he was putting her friendship with Lolly at risk this time around and he didn't give a *beep*. If Becca had said 'screw Lolly' to be with him he would have been fine with it. So what does that tell us about Kevin? Yes Becca has been entirely too passive with him and should have told Lolly that he was the reason for their breakup, but he ain't great shakes himself.

Lolly's reaction was normal and fitting. It was nice when she realized that Kevin was the reason their friendship ended. Personally, I prefer Lolly with Jaime and Becky needs to find someone completely new and leave all the guys she dealt with the first time around behind

I sure the momment of realisation made her feel like she was just being played by her best-friend, cause in all honesty, thats exactly how it would come off to anyone. Your best-friend manipulating the situations to her own benefit.

reply

True, it could look that way to a lot of people.

Mag, Darling, you're being a bore.

reply

Its actually kind of multifaceted, which gives this show more depth.

The first time around, Lolly never told Kevin, he falls for Becca.

This time around, Lolly tells him, but only after Becca spent time with him mistakenly saying things she already knew about him, making him think they are soulmates.

Were Lolly and Kevin ever going to end up together, probably not, but look at from her point of view. Becca basically stole him twice in two different ways.

Anyway, I imagine they patch up their friendship this time or the point of the show turns to nothing.

reply

I think it's possible she'll jump back in time again and have another attempt to fix everything. Maybe she'll not even tell Lolly this time around knowing that ultimately that knowledge is what ruined their friendship. Maybe she'll show interest in Kevin at the beginning if she actually wants him.

Then again knowing this show, anything could happen. She could jump back to the future and see all the ramifications which would be crazy since she wouldn't remember any of the next 20 years. That could be kind of interesting.

Whatever the case, I hope the show is renewed.

My fracking DVR cutoff at the end when she was in the elevator. What happened? Also I was 18 in 1996 and we did indeed cut off friends in a heartbeat if they dated someone we liked behind our backs. I feel like in the 2000's girls were more slutty and okay with this which I never understood. You never EVER crossed a friend like that, at least not in my group. That being said, if someone was upfront in the beginning, that's a different story altogether. Hiding the situation, totally not cool.

The scene was just several flashbacks of what transpired so far in the show, with Becca yelling to "take her back I want to go back" - then the elevator doors open.

it wasn't' your DVR, I heard the whole East Coast Feed ended it early. But it ended in cliff hanger, the elevator doors open, but we stay on Becca's face. It looked like outside the elevator was washed in light.

reply

Thanks everyone. I am on the west coast but I taped it again and added additional time and was able to watch. It kind of ended a little too soon/fast. They should have opened the elevator and let the white light really hit her and show her face to get the full affect of something freaky. It was barely a second and boom it's over.

reply

Personally, while I do think Lolly was a bit over the top (but at least she has the excuse of being young-20's), I don't think she "went psycho" on Becca.

Obviously, she was hurt when Kevin chose Becca over her, but she would have gotten over it... until she realized Becca had already knew how things would play out this and lied to her about it. Lolly was upfront with Becca about her feelings for Kevin, which Becca pretended didn't know Kevin, didn't like him and didn't know that he liked her, when she had essentially been sneaking around with him for 6 months. That's pretty messed up.

All in all, I don't think this make Becca a "bad person" as Lolly called her, but it was a bit shady, definitely very, very stupid, and I don't fault Lolly for being really mad about it.

reply

I think when Lolly called Becca "a bad person" it was specific to the fact that she had already (in the future) slept wity Kevin. Lolly meant that only a bad person would do that (have an affair or sleep with someone her friend loves). In her rant she kept saying that its already happened - even though it didn't happen, it that makes any sense.

reply

...**if** that makes any sense.

reply

Lolly's statement was justified since she gave Becca every opportunity to come clean about her feelings for Kevin, but still Becca lied. Plus, it seemed like Becca's actions finally opened her eyes to who she truly was and the statement was also based on all their years of friendship.

reply

Agreed. If Becca told Lolly she would not only save their friendship, but also save Lolly from this major crush she had for who knows how long. It would give Kevin and Becca a chance. Though I still do not like Kevin. The way they just split up in 2004 is stupid, they just managed to hurt someone who loves them for nothing.
