Robert Wagner...

...looks so bored in this movie. Can you imagine what he must have told Jill St. John prior to filming?

Wagner: Hey Honey, remind me why I agreed to play 'Santa Claus?'

St. John: Well, dear, you always mentioned you wanted to do something different than your early acting days...and they're paying you. Besides, who do you suppose will play 'Mrs. Claus'?

Wagner: Hmm...well in that case... .

I have been a fan of Robert Wagner since I was a kid but in this movie he did not fit that role. I always see Santa as very happy, jolly, upbeat, cheery but that first scene with him I was very surprised at how pessimistic he seemed almost unlikable. Plus his voice is so distinctly his and he should have tried to do a Santa voice. I guess they must have realized he was not right in that role for they got a different Santa in the new one and he was very good and totally reminds one of Santa Claus.

Excuse me, but how can you expect Father Christmas (Santa Clause) to be jolly and cheerful, when he is facing the possible end of Christmas and his home the North Pole?
No wonder the man is rather depressed.

It would have been to weird having Santa walking around like:
"Ho ho ho, Christmas and the North Pole is about to end, i am about to be out of a job and about to loose my home for good. Ho ho ho, how jolly i am about this."

Mrs. Clause would go: "Here take some tranquilizers, you are about to loose your mind my dear."

In the sequel, there are other concerns about "Christmas Cheer", but Santa remains upbeat/positive. How can anyone be optimistic if Santa appeared to have doubts?

I can understand having frustrations in the beginning. However, even after everything is resolved, in this film, he's humdrum/not too excited. Santa should be ecstatic and hasty to stock his sleigh if Christmas was "saved."
